History Of Moncton
The history of Moncton extends back thousands of years, with its first inhabitants being the First Nations of the region, such as the Mi'kmaq. Located in New Brunswick, Moncton's motto is ''Resurgo'', which is Latin for ''I rise again''. This motto was originally chosen in celebration of the city's rebirth in 1875 after the recovery of the economy from the collapse of the shipbuilding industry. The city again lived up to its motto in more recent times, when the economy of the city was devastated once more during the 1980s as a result of the city's largest employers (the CN repair shops, the Eaton's catalogue division, and CFB Moncton) all departing the city in short order. The city has since rebounded due to growth in the light manufacturing, technology, distribution, tourism, and retail sectors of the economy and is now the fastest growing city in Canada east of Toronto. Bernice MacNaughton High School (usually abbreviated as ''Bernice MacNaughton'', ''MacNaughton'', or ''BMHS''), is a high school in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. Name Bernice MacNaughton High School was named after Dr. L. Bernice MacNaughton, a Moncton teacher, and was formerly known as Dr. L. Bernice MacNaughton High School. History Founded in 1975 as a trade school, Bernice MacNaughton originally accommodated 1,400 students. It became the MacNaughton Science & Technology Center (MSTC) in 1994 but was reestablished as a high school in 1999, consisting only of grade nine students. 2003 saw the first graduating class of BMHS. MacNaughton underwent an extensive multi-million dollar renovation between 2000 and 2003; additions included construction of a new gymnasium and several classrooms, landscaping, additional lighting, and driveway resurfacing. Harrison Trimble High School
Harrison Trimble High School (HTHS) is a high school situated in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. History HTHS was opened in 1961 and is Moncton's biggest school after Moncton High School. Following expansions in the 1960s, there were over 2,000 students in grades 10 to 12 by 1973. Today, it serves approximately 1,300 students from grades 9 through 12. Its school mascot is the Trojan. The school is represented by the colours maroon and white, its motto being "Pride in Ourselves, Pride in our School, Pride in our Community". Harrison Trimble High School was named after a civic-minded board Trustee who showed foresight by acquiring the parcel of land on behalf of the district, at a time when the area was mostly pasture, thereby saving the school district a lot of money when time came to build.
