Census In Nepal
The National Census of Nepal is conducted every ten years to collect information about the demographic, social, economic and other parameters. The first census in Nepal was done in 1911 using a traditional approach. Since 1952/54 the census was done by adopting modern scientific methods. At present, the census is carried out by the Central Bureau of Statistics under the National Planning Commission. Central Bureau Of Statistics (Nepal)
The Central Bureau of Statistics ( ne, केन्द्रीय तथाङ्क विभाग) is the central agency for the collection, consolidation, processing, analysis, publication and dissemination of statistics in Nepal. One of its core tasks is to research and publish censuses of Nepal, the most prominent one being the overall population census and Demographics of Nepal. History The Central Bureau of Statistics was established in 1959 under the National Planning Commission of Nepal, which is headed by the Prime Minister of Nepal. Before 2015, different Nepalese governmental organisations gathered statistical information on their own. This led to inconsistencies in statistical information, for which the Bureau called for improvement of the processes, which, however, were not implemented as of 2017. Constitution Of Nepal
Constitution of Nepal 2015 ( ne, नेपालको संविधान २०७२) is the present governing Constitution of Nepal. Nepal is governed according to the Constitution which came into effect on 20 September 2015, replacing the Interim Constitution of 2007. The constitution of Nepal is divided into 35 parts, 308 Articles and 9 Schedules. The Constitution was drafted by the Second Constituent Assembly following the failure of the First Constituent Assembly to produce a constitution in its mandated period after the devastating earthquake in April 2015. The constitution was endorsed by 90% of the total legislators. Out of 598 Constituent Assembly members, 538 voted in favour of the constitution while 60 people voted against it, including a few Terai-based political parties which refrained from the voting process. Digital Himalaya
The Digital Himalaya project was established in December 2000 by Mark Turin, Alan Macfarlane, Sara Shneiderman, and Sarah Harrison. The project's principal goal is to collect and preserve historical multimedia materials relating to the Himalaya, such as photographs, recordings, and journals, and make those resources available over the internet and offline, on external storage media. The project team have digitized older ethnographic collections and data sets that were deteriorating in their analogue formats, so as to protect them from deterioration and make them available and accessible to originating communities in the Himalayan region and a global community of scholars. Censuses In Nepal
A census is the procedure of systematically acquiring, recording and calculating information about the members of a given population. This term is used mostly in connection with national population and housing censuses; other common censuses include censuses of agriculture, traditional culture, business, supplies, and traffic censuses. The United Nations (UN) defines the essential features of population and housing censuses as "individual enumeration, universality within a defined territory, simultaneity and defined periodicity", and recommends that population censuses be taken at least every ten years. UN recommendations also cover census topics to be collected, official definitions, classifications and other useful information to co-ordinate international practices.
