Celle–Soltau Railway
The Celle–Soltau railway is a standard gauge railway in the state of Lower Saxony in northern Germany that belongs to the East Hanoverian Railways (''Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen'' or ''OHE''). It is the OHE's busiest line. History The initiative for the construction of a railway to Bergen came from the district of Celle. The Garßen–Beckedorf–Bergen section was opened on 23 April 1902 by the '' Kleinbahn Garßen-Bergen''. Its terminus had to be at Garßen because they failed to reach agreement with the town of Celle on the route of the line through the town. Following the approval of the '' Kleinbahn Celle–Wittingen'' a solution emerged, however, in the shape of junction with that railway. So it was more than two years later, on 13 December 1904, that the line to Celle-Vorstadt on the Celle–Wittingen railway went into service, making through services to Celle possible. Beckedorf–Munster Railway
The standard gauge Beckedorf–Munster railway in north Germany is owned by the East Hanoverian Railways (german: Osthannoverschen Eisenbahnen or OHE). History The line was built by the Celle-Soltau, Celle-Munster Light Railway Company (''Kleinbahn Celle-Soltau, Celle-Munster GmbH''). It was intended as a branch of the Celle–Soltau railway that had been opened in 1902 as far as Bergen. On 23 April 1910 the latter was extended from Bergen to Soltau and at the same time the line from Beckedorf to Munster was opened. In the beginning it was a line that opened up and served the rural communities. As Germany re-armed prior to the Second World War several sidings to military bases (Poitzen, Munster) were built and, as a result, traffic grew appreciably. East Hanoverian Railways
The Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen AG (OHE) is a Celle based transportation company with railway network in North-eastern Lower Saxony around the Lüneburg Heath area of over 250 km. The OHE's main business is the transportation of freight through their own routes as well as the network of the Deutsche Bahn. Historically the company also operated passenger trains, which completely ended in 1977 after previous partial closures. Celle
Celle () is a town and capital of the district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. The town is situated on the banks of the river Aller, a tributary of the Weser, and has a population of about 71,000. Celle–Wittingen Railway
The Celle–Wittingen railway is a line belonging to the East Hanoverian Railways (''Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen'' or ''OHE''). Because its western portion runs along the River Lachte, it is also known as the Lachte Valley Railway (''Lachtetalbahn''). History After a considerable effort by the Celle–Wittingen Light Railway Company, founded on 21 June 1902, to have a railway from Celle to Wittingen, they were finally able to build the line and begin operating it on 16 August 1904. Hanover–Hamburg Railway
The Hanover–Hamburg railway is one of the most important railway lines in Lower Saxony and Germany. It links the Lower Saxon state capital of Hanover with Hamburg, running through Celle, Uelzen and Lüneburg. Garßen
Garßen is a Lower Saxony, Lower Saxon village in the southern part of the Lüneburg Heath and, since 1973, part of the borough of Celle in Germany. It lies on the northeastern side of the town. History The name of the village is derived from ''Gersnethe'' (1248). Historically Garßen was part of the parish of Groß Hehlen. On 1 January 1973 Garßen lost its independence and was incorporated into the borough of Celle. The village is separated into an old and a new area by the Bundesstraße 191, B 191 federal road which runs from Celle to Eschede and Uelzen. Altensalzkoth
Altensalzkoth is a village in the Lower Saxon town of Bergen in north Germany. It belongs to the parish of Eversen in the district of Celle on the Lüneburg Heath. It lies 13 km north of Celle on the ''Landesstraße'' L 240 and currently has 65 inhabitants. History The history of Altensalzkoth is closely bound to the saltworks in Sülze. When the moors in the vicinity of Sülze were exhausted, the boiling sites were moved initially to the Bornrieth Moor from 1673 to 1678. Eversen (Bergen)
Eversen is a village in the town of Bergen in the northern part of Celle district on the Lüneburg Heath in the north German state of Lower Saxony. Although Eversen was mentioned for the first time in a feudal register dating from 1330, the earliest archaeological discoveries stem from the Paleolithic period.
