Cedar Sigo
Cedar Sigo (born February 2, 1978 in Washington State) is a Suquamish American writer of art, literature and film. Background Cedar Sigo was raised in Suquamish located within the Port Madison Indian Reservation in Washington state. In 1995 he was awarded a scholarship to study at Naropa Institute's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics in Boulder Colorado. It was there that he studied and interacted with well-known poets, such as Allen Ginsberg, Anne Waldman, Lisa Jarnot, Alice Notley, and Joanne Kyger. Sigo is the author of several books and pamphlets of poetry, some of which have been included in various magazines and anthologies. Sigo has given poetry readings in various locations across the United States, including the Poetry Project at St. Mark's Church, the Museum of Contemporary Art, The San Francisco Poetry Center, San Francisco Art Institute, and the Suquamish Community House, also called ''sgwәdzadad qәł ?altxw'' ( The House of Awakened Culture). Micah Ballard
Micah Ballard is a poet born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on September 23, 1975. Since 1999 he has lived in San Francisco with his wife, poet Sunnylyn Thibodeaux. Under the imprints Auguste Press and Lew Gallery Editions they have printed over 30 books by various poets and artists. Ballard attended the Poetics Program at New College of California in San Francisco’s mission district where he worked with David Meltzer, Joanne Kyger, and Tom Clark. From 2000-07 he directed the Humanities Program there. In 2007 Ballard started the short-lived Lew Gallery with Portland artist Jeff Butler and curated such notable shows as "Artworks" by David Meltzer and "Some of the Worlds Diamonds: Pieces from Living Rooms," a collaboration with painters and poets from San Francisco to New York City. Suquamish People
The Suquamish () are a Lushootseed-speaking Native American people, located in present-day Washington in the United States. They are a southern Coast Salish people. Today, most Suquamish people are enrolled in the federally recognized Suquamish Tribe, a signatory to the 1855 Treaty of Point Elliott. Chief Seattle, the famous leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish Tribes for which the City of Seattle is named, signed the Point Elliot Treaty on behalf of both Tribes. The Suquamish Tribe owns the Port Madison Indian Reservation. Language and culture Suquamish people traditionally speak a dialect of Lushootseed, which belongs to the Salishan language family. Like many Northwest Coast indigenous peoples pre- European contact, the Suquamish enjoyed the rich bounty of land and sea west of the Cascade Mountains.
