Cedar Lakes Conference Center
The Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, West Virginia, serves as a facility for leadership training for students. Multiple locations were proposed for this facility, but on March 15, 1950, the previous Easter Farm was chosen. It was officially opened on January 7, 1955, and then officially named in 1957. The name "Cedar Lakes" was chosen because of its two lakes and many cedar trees. It is now 450 acres of 30 individual buildings. Now about 500,000 people visit annually. The West Virginia Department of Agriculture took control of the conference center on July 1, 2016. Ripley is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, West Virginia, Jackson County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 3,074 at the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census. History Ripley was originally owned and settled by William, John, and Lewis Rodgers. They received a grant of in 1768 where "Sycamore Creek joins Big Mill Creek" (the current site of Ripley). The land was later sold to Jacob (and Ann) Starcher, most probably in 1803. National FFA Organization is an American 501(c)(3) youth organization, specifically a career and technical student organization, based on middle and high school classes that promote and support agriculture, agricultural education. It was founded in 1925 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, by agriculture teachers Henry C. Groseclose, Walter Stephenson Newman, Walter Newman, Edmund Magill, and Harry Sanders as Future Farmers of Virginia. In 1928, it became a nationwide organization known as Future Farmers of America. The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national student organization created to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as well as business education. TSA aims to develop leadership, academic, and business management skills in the workplace among students and leaders within the community. The organization has 250,000 members. Competition Competitive events are separated into middle school and high school levels, with students competing only with their respective age group.
