Cedar Island (New York)
Cedar Island State Park is a state park located in the Town of Hammond in St. Lawrence County, New York. The park comprises half of Cedar Island, located in Chippewa Bay in the St. Lawrence River, part of the Thousand Islands region. The remainder of the island is privately owned. The park was established in 1898 as part of the St. Lawrence Reservation. Park description Cedar Island State Park is accessible only by boat. The park offers dockage, fishing, seasonal waterfowl hunting, pavilions, picnic tables, and a campground with 18 tent sites. Hammond, New York
Hammond is a town in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The population was 1,191 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from early land owner Abijah Hammond. The Town of Hammond is in the northwestern corner of St. Lawrence County. The Village of Hammond lies approximately centrally within the town. History The Town of Hammond was formed in 1827 when portions of the Town of Morristown and the Town of Rossie were combined. Subsequent small alterations in the town lines affected the neighboring Towns of Rossie, Macomb, and Morristown. Alexander Macomb bought land in this area and this was known as the Macomb purchase. Later this land was bought by Abijah Hammond, a New York Businessman, he in turn sold of land to David Parish. A land office was opened in 1814 in Chippewa Bay, a sub-community of the Town of Hammond today. Alexandria Bay, New York
Alexandria Bay is a village in Jefferson County, New York, United States, within the town of Alexandria. It is located in the Thousand Islands region of northern New York. The population of the village was 1,078 at the 2010 United States Census. It lies near the Thousand Islands Border Crossing of Canada and the United States. History Settlement began around 1817. By 1836, the community had about 25 dwellings. The George C. The Thousand Islands (french: Mille-Îles) constitute a North American archipelago of 1,864 islands that straddles the Canada–US border in the Saint Lawrence River as it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They stretch for about downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian islands are in the province of Ontario and the U.S. islands in the state of New York. The islands range in size from over to smaller islands occupied by a single residence, or uninhabited outcroppings of rocks.
