Cedar Hill Independent School District (CHISD) is a public school district based in Cedar Hill, Texas, United States. The district superintendent is Dr. Gerald Hudson. Catchment, demographics and history Cedar Hill ISD serves 36 square miles - Most of the city of Cedar Hill and portions of Grand Prairie, Texas, Grand Prairie, Ovilla, Texas, Ovilla, Duncanville, Texas, Duncanville and Dallas, Texas, Dallas. The District has 61 buses and 2,270 daily bus riders./chisd.net Cedar Hill ISD was established in 1904, with just one campus, when it enacted a special school tax per new law. The District counted 273 students in 1922–23. In the 1930s, the first Parent Teacher's Association was organized, and Mrs. Haswell was the first president. Bray Elementary is the District's original Elementary campus. It was named in honor of Ms. Floy Bray (1889-1985). Cedar Hill, Texas
Cedar Hill is a city in Dallas and Ellis counties in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located approximately southwest of downtown Dallas and is situated along the eastern shore of Joe Pool Lake and Cedar Hill State Park. Per the 2020 United States census, the population was 49,148. Cedar Hill is a suburb of the city of Dallas and is part of the Best Southwest area, which includes the nearby cities of DeSoto, Duncanville, and Lancaster. Early in its history, Cedar Hill lay along a branch of the Chisholm Trail and served as the temporary county seat of Dallas County. In 1856, a tornado swept through the town killing nine people and destroying most of its buildings. The seat of the county was moved to Dallas not long after. Ovilla is a city in Dallas and Ellis Counties in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 4,304 at the 2020 census. History Original settlement Ovilla, on upper Red Oak Creek in northern Ellis County, is the oldest town in the county. It began in 1844 as a fortified settlement known as McNamara's to repel Indian incursions. Duncanville, Texas
Duncanville is a city in southwest Dallas County, Texas, in the United States. Duncanville's population was 40,706 at the 2020 census. The city is part of the Best Southwest area, which includes Duncanville, Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Lancaster. History Settlement of the area began in 1845, when Illinois resident Crawford Trees purchased several thousand acres south of Camp Dallas.
