Cedar Paul, ''née'' Gertrude Mary Davenport (1880 – 18 March 1972) was a singer, author, translator and journalist.''Who Was Who'' Biography Gertrude Davenport came from a musical family: she was the granddaughter of the composer George Alexander Macfarren and the daughter of the composer Francis William Davenport (1847–1925). She was educated at convent schools in Belgium, France, Italy and England, and studied music in Germany. She was a member of the Independent Labour Party from 1912 to 1919, and Secretary of the British Section of the Women's International Council of Socialist and Labour Organizations from 1917 to 1919. She married Eden Paul, and from 1915 onwards was active - under the name of Cedar Paul - as a translator and writer in collaboration with her husband. Cedar Prest is an Australian stained glass artist based in Maslin Beach, South Australia. Early life and education She has a B.A. and Dip.Ed. from the University of Melbourne (1961) and also studied drawing at the National Gallery of Victoria Art School at night, then completed a post diploma in stained glass at Hornsey College of Art, London (1966). She received an Australia Council grant to study the contemporary architectural glass masters in Germany (1975) from which came a community glass project at Parks Community Centre in 1979–80. Further study was undertaken in 2002–2003 on a Churchill Fellowship at the University of Creation Spirituality in Oakland, California. She then trained as a labyrinth facilitator at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco, 2002 with a follow-up workshop in Chartres Cathedral in 2004. Cedar Sigo (born February 2, 1978 in Washington State) is a Suquamish American writer of art, literature and film. Background Cedar Sigo was raised in Suquamish located within the Port Madison Indian Reservation in Washington state. In 1995 he was awarded a scholarship to study at Naropa Institute's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics in Boulder Colorado. It was there that he studied and interacted with well-known poets, such as Allen Ginsberg, Anne Waldman, Lisa Jarnot, Alice Notley, and Joanne Kyger. Sigo is the author of several books and pamphlets of poetry, some of which have been included in various magazines and anthologies. Cedar Anthony Walton Jr. (January 17, 1934 – August 19, 2013) was an American hard bop jazz pianist. He came to prominence as a member of drummer Art Blakey's band, The Jazz Messengers, before establishing a long career as a bandleader and composer. Howard Chaim Cedar (Hebrew: חיים סידר; born January 12, 1943) is an Israeli American biochemist who works on DNA methylation, a mechanism that turns genes on and off. Biography Howard Chaim Cedar was born in the United States. He received a bachelor's degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and, in 1970, received an M.D. and a PhD from New York University. He is married to Zipora, a psychodramatist, and has six children, Joseph (a film writer and director), Dahlia, Noa, Yoav, Yonatan and Daniel, and 24 grandchildren. Jon Cedar (January 22, 1931 – April 14, 2011) was an American actor. He appeared in more than sixty television and film roles during his career. Career Cedar began his acting career in high school theater productions at Detroit High School. He enlisted in the U.S. military and served in Italy during the Korean War. Cedar moved to Hollywood after leaving the military. Cedar toured the United States with his family, appearing in traveling musical and touring off-Broadway productions. Yossef (Joseph) Cedar (Hebrew: יוסף סידר; born August 31, 1968) is an Israeli film director and screenwriter. Biography Cedar was born to an Orthodox Jewish family in New York City. His father is biochemist Howard Cedar. When Joseph was 6, his family moved to Israel, and he grew up in the Bayit VeGan neighborhood in Jerusalem. He studied in a Yeshiva High School. In the Israeli army he served as a paratrooper. After graduating in philosophy and history of theatre from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he studied cinema studies at New York University.
