Cecil Lowry-Corry, 6th Earl Belmore
Cecil Lowry-Corry, 6th Earl Belmore (20 March 1873 – 2 March 1949) was the son of Somerset Lowry-Corry, 4th Earl Belmore and the brother of Armar Lowry-Corry, 5th Earl Belmore. Educated at Wellington College he held the offices of justice of the peace for County Tyrone and County Fermanagh, deputy lieutenant of County Fermanagh, High Sheriff of County Tyrone (1916) and High Sheriff of County Fermanagh (1922). He was also chairman of Fermanagh County Council from 1943 and then of Enniskillen Rural District Council. He was also a member of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland and honorary secretary of the Clogher Diocesan Fund. He succeeded to the title on 12 February 1948 on the death of his brother and died just over a year later aged 76. He was succeeded by his cousin. Somerset Lowry-Corry, 4th Earl Belmore
Somerset Richard Lowry-Corry, 4th Earl Belmore, (9 April 1835 – 6 April 1913), styled as Viscount Corry from 1841 to 1845, was an Irish nobleman and Conservative politician who served as Governor of New South Wales from 1868 to 1872. Background and education Born at Bruton Street in London, he was the eldest son of Armar Lowry-Corry, 3rd Earl Belmore and his wife Emily Louise Shepherd, youngest daughter of William Shepherd. Belmore succeeded his father in the earldom on 24 December 1845, at the age of only 10. He was educated at Eton and at Trinity College, Cambridge, from where he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1856. Career English government Belmore was elected as a Representative Peer for Ireland and sat in the House of Lords from January 1857 until his death. Earl Belmore is a title in the Peerage of Ireland that was created in 1797 for Armar Lowry-Corry, 1st Earl Belmore, Armar Lowry-Corry, 1st Viscount Belmore, who had previously represented County Tyrone in the Irish House of Commons. He had already been created Baron Belmore, of Castle Coole in County Fermanagh (now in Northern Ireland), in 1781 and Viscount Belmore in 1789, also in the Peerage of Ireland. Born Armar Lowry, he was the son of Galbraith Lowry, Member of the Irish House of Commons for County Tyrone, and his wife Sarah, daughter of Colonel John Corry. In 1774, he assumed by Royal licence the additional surname of Corry. He was succeeded by his eldest son, the second Earl. Galbraith Armar Lowry-Corry, 7th Earl Belmore (14 April 1913 – 20 July 1960) was an Irish peer and the son of Major Adrian Lowry-Corry, himself the son of Admiral the Hon. Armar Lowry-Corry (the second son of Armar Lowry-Corry, 3rd Earl Belmore). Early years and career He was educated at Lancing College in Sussex and then at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst in Berkshire. He fought in the Second World War and was wounded in action and later gained the rank of Major in the service of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. Major Lowry-Corry was serving with the Inniskillings in Malaya in 1949 when his commanding officer handed him a telegram addressed 'Lord Belmore'. It signalled that his bachelor cousin, the 6th Earl of Belmore, had died and that he, a great nephew of the 4th Earl, had succeeded to the earldom and the family seat of Castle Coole.
