Cecil Henry Ethelwood Miller is Guyanese-Kenyan former Chief Justice of Kenya. He served between 1986–1989 and was succeeded by Allan Robin Winston Hancox. Chief Justice Of Kenya
The Chief Justice of Kenya is the head of the Judiciary of Kenya and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya and is an office established under Article 161 of the Kenyan Constitution. The Chief Justice is assisted by the Deputy Chief Justice who is also the Deputy President of the Supreme Court. The current Chief Justice is Martha Koome, the first woman to serve as Chief Justice in Kenya. Appointment and tenure of office Before the enactment of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, the President appointed the Chief Justice without any interview process or parliamentary approval. The Chief Justice did not enjoy security of tenure, and could be dismissed at the pleasure of the President. Allan Robin Winston Hancox
Allan Robin Winston Hancox (1932 – 1 January 2013) was a Chief Justice of Kenya. He served between 1989 and 1993, and was succeeded by Fred Kwasi Apaloo. Early career Born and educated in England, Justice Hancox first joined the judiciary as a magistrate in Kenya Colony in 1957. He subsequently worked in Nigeria, before returning to Kenya in 1963 as a senior resident magistrate. In 1969, he was appointed a High Court Judge. Hancox Commission In 1986 the then President Daniel arap Moi appointed Justice Hancox as the only member of a Commission Inquiring into the Insurance Industry. Retirement and death He retired to live in Guernsey and became Assistant Magistrate for ten years. He died aged 80 years at the Aga Khan hospital in the town of Kisumu. Charles Njonjo
Charles Mugane Njonjo (23 January 1920 – 2 January 2022) was a Kenyan lawyer who served as Attorney General of Kenya from 1963 to 1979, and Minister of Constitutional Affairs and the member of Parliament for Kikuyu Constituency from 1980 to 1983. Njonjo was also popularly referred to as "The Duke of Kabeteshire". Early life and education Njonjo was the son of the late Josiah Njonjo, a paramount chief and one of the foremost collaborators of British colonial rule in Kenya. The Njonjo family were close friends of Harry Leakey, whose son (Louis) and paternal grandson (Richard, who died on the same day as Charles) later played important roles in archaeology and Kenyan politics. Daniel Arap Moi
Daniel Toroitich arap Moi ( ; 2 September 1924 – 4 February 2020) was a Kenyan politician who served as the second president of Kenya from 1978 to 2002. He was the country's longest-serving president. Moi previously served as the third vice president of Kenya from 1967 to 1978 under President Jomo Kenyatta, becoming president following the latter's death. Born into the Tugen sub-group of the Kalenjin people in the Kenyan Rift Valley, Moi studied as a boy at the Africa Inland Mission school before training as a teacher at the Tambach teachers training college, working in that profession until 1955. He then entered politics and was elected a member of the Legislative Council for Rift Valley. The Court of Appeal of Kenya is established under Article 164 of the constitution of Kenya and consists of a number of judges, being not fewer than twelve. The court handles appeals arising over the decisions of the High Court of Kenya, the Environment & Land Court and the Employment & Labour Relations Court as well as any other court or tribunal as provided for in law. The judges of the Court of Appeal elect one Judge to represent them on the Judicial Service Commission.
