Cecil Dormer
Sir Cecil Francis Joseph Dormer (14 February 1883 – 28 July 1979) was the British Minister to Norway between 1934 and 1941. Early life and background Dormer was the son of Hon. Hubert Francis Dormer (1837-1913) and Mary Jane Elizabeth Digby (d. 1938). His father was a younger son of Thaddeus Dormer, 11th Baron Dormer. Military career In April–May 1917 he was a member of the Balfour Mission, intended to promote cooperation between the US and UK during World War I. After the German invasion of Norway in April 1940 he joined Norway's government and King on their move northwards, and followed the government into exile in London in June 1940. He was appointed Ambassador to Poland's exile government from 1941 until 1943. Personal life On 25 February 1915, Dormer married Lady Mary Alice Clara Feilding (31 March 1888 – 7 March 1973), the daughter of Rudolph Feilding, 9th Earl of Denbigh. Rudolph (Rollo) Robert Basil Aloysius Augustine Feilding, 9th Earl of Denbigh, 8th Earl of Desmond, (26 May 1859 – 25 November 1939), styled Viscount Feilding from 1865 to 1892, was a British peer and officer. Biography Lord Feilding was the eldest son of the 8th Earl of Denbigh and Mary (née Berkeley). He succeeded his father as Earl of Denbigh in 1892. He was an artillery lieutenant at the Battle of Tel el-Kebir, where he laid the horse artillery gun that hit the third railway train on the line there and prevented the further retreat of the Egyptians. Lord Denbigh was Colonel commandant of the Honourable Artillery Company from 1903 until 1933. In March 1902, Lord Denbigh was head of a mission sent by the British government to congratulate Pope Leo XIII upon entering on the 25th year of his Pontificate. Baron Dormer
Baron Dormer, of Wyng (or Wenge), County of Buckingham, is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created on 30 June 1615 for Sir Robert Dormer, 1st Baronet. He had, only twenty days earlier on 10 June 1615, been created a baronet "of Wing in the County of Buckingham", in the Baronetage of England. His grandson, the 2nd Baron Dormer was raised to Viscount Ascott in the County of Buckingham, and Earl of Carnarvon in 1628, and later became a prominent Royalist commander in the Civil War. On the death of his son, the second Earl, in 1707, the viscountcy and earldom became extinct. However, the late Earl was succeeded in the baronetcy and barony by his second cousin, the fourth Baron. He was the grandson of The Hon. Anthony Dormer, second son of the first Baron. On his death this line of the family also failed and the titles passed to his second cousin, the fifth Baron.
