Cape Canaveral, Florida
Cape Canaveral ( es, Cabo Cañaveral, link=) is a city in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 9,912 at the 2010 United States Census. It is part of the Palm Bay–Melbourne– Titusville Metropolitan Statistical Area. History After the establishment of a lighthouse in 1848, a few families moved into the area and a small but stable settlement was born. As the threat of Seminole Indian attacks became increasingly unlikely, other settlers began to move into the area around the Indian River. Post offices and small community stores with postal facilities were established at Canaveral, Canaveral Harbor and Artesia. It is thought the Artesia post office was so named for the ground water of artesian springs that are prevalent in the area. In 1890 a group of Harvard alumni students established a hunters gun club called the Canaveral Harvard Club with a holding of over . Their game hunts helped clear the wilderness for other settlers to move in. In the early 1920s, a group of ...

1000 Hurts
''1000 Hurts'' is the third studio album by American indie rock band Shellac, released on August 8, 2000. In its official promotional materials Shellac jokingly described this album as follows: "There are no 12-minute songs on this one. This record is more mean-spirited. Todd sings." The cover is a clear homage to old Ampex audio recording tape boxes. The band are known for using analog tape for their recordings, and are fans of Ampex tape and tape recorders. Also, the speech at the start of the record is a variation on the announcements one would hear on Magnetic Reference Laboratory's calibration tapes for analogue tape recorders. The title refers to one-thousand hertz (rendered 1000 hz), a measure used in audio recording describing a sine wave cycling 1,000 times per second. The album was named ''Rockfeedback'' magazine's record of the decade. Jehnny Beth of Savages-fame named the album one of her biggest influences, saying that it had made her "want to be a bassist" & ...

Canebrake
A canebrake or canebreak is a thicket of any of a variety of ''Arundinaria'' grasses: '' A. gigantea'', '' A. tecta'' and '' A. appalachiana''. As a bamboo, these giant grasses grow in thickets up to 24 ft tall. ''A. gigantea'' is generally found in stream valleys and ravines throughout the southeastern United States. ''A. tecta'' is a smaller stature species found on the Atlantic and Gulf Coastal Plains. Finally, ''A. appalachiana'' is found in more upland areas at the southern end of the Appalachian mountains. Cane does not do well on sites that meet wetland classification; instead canebrakes are characteristic of moist lowland, floodplain areas that are not as saturated as true wetlands. Canebrakes were formerly widespread in the Southern United States, potentially covering 10 million acres, but have been widely replaced by agriculture. This destruction has impacted a number of species. The survival of the Florida panther (''Puma concolor'' subsp. ''coryi'') has been chal ...
