Cavan General Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Ginearálta an Chabháin) is a public hospital located in Cavan, County Cavan, Ireland. It is managed by RCSI Hospitals. History The hospital was officially opened by Rory O'Hanlon, Minister for Health, in 1989. Services The hospital provides 264 beds, of which 193 are in-patient acute beds, while 46 are reserved for acute day cases. A further 25 beds are for psychiatric services. It provides acute-care hospital services including a 24-hour emergency department. Transport and access There are car parking areas located in the hospital grounds. The hospital is a short taxi journey or around 15–20 minutes on foot from the centre of Cavan. Health Service Executive
The Health Service Executive (HSE) ( ga, Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte) is the publicly funded healthcare system in Ireland, responsible for the provision of health and personal social services. It came into operation on 1 January 2005. The current Director-General is Stephen Mulvany on an interim basis, after Paul Reid stepped down in October 2022. The new Director General, Bernard Gloster, will take up the role in Spring 2023. History The Executive was established by the Health Act 2004 and came into official operation on 1 January 2005. Cootehill
Cootehill (; ) is a market town and townland in County Cavan, Ireland. Cootehill was formerly part of the neighbouring townland of Munnilly. Both townlands lie within the barony of Tullygarvey. The English language name of the town is a portmanteau of "Coote" and "Hill", the family names of a local 18th century landowning family. Name The town's Irish name, ''Muinchille'', derives from the Irish language term meaning a ridge or "sleeve". The town's name in English, Cootehill, is a portmanteau attributed to the intermarriage of the landowning Coote and Hill families in the early 1700s. This involved the marriage of Thomas Coote (c. 1620–25 Nov 1671) and Frances Hill from Hillsborough, County Down, who were involved in the linen trade. Cavan ( ; ) is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The town is bypassed by the main N3 road that links Dublin (to the south) with Enniskillen, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town (to the north). History Gaelic Cavan 1300–1607 Cavan was founded by the Irish clan chief and Lord of East Breifne, Giolla Íosa Ruadh O’Reilly, between 1300 and his death in 1330. During his lordship, a friary run by the Dominican Order was established close to the O’Reilly stronghold at Tullymongan and was at the centre of the settlement close to a crossing over the river and to the town's marketplace. The National Transport Authority ( ga, Údarás Náisiúnta Iompair) or NTA is the transport authority for Greater Dublin and the public transport licensing agency for Ireland. Arvagh (), or Arva, is a village in County Cavan, Ireland, on the shores of Garty Lough and overlooked by Bruse Mountain. It is located on the junction of the R198 road (Ireland), R198 and R203 road (Ireland), R203 Regional road (Ireland), regional roads.
