Catherine Francblin
Catherine Francblin is a French art critic, art historian, and independent curator. Career Francblin joined Art Press magazine in 1975 and was the editor-in-chief until 1992. She then joined the Paris Modern Art Museum where she headed the Educational and Cultural Service until 1998. From 2002 to 2008, Francblin was in charge of the diffusion of the Centre national des arts plastiques collection. She has curated exhibitions at the Bass Museum (Miami), the Museo de Arte Moderno (Mexico City), the Pinacoteca do Estado (Sao Paulo), among others. Francblin is the author of a reference work on the New Realists. Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris (, Paris' Museum of Modern Art) or MAM Paris, is a major municipal museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art of the 20th and 21st centuries, including monumental murals by Raoul Dufy, Gaston Suisse, and Henri Matisse. Centre National Des Arts Plastiques
The Centre national des arts plastiques (National Centre for Visual Arts, Cnap) is a French institution established in 1982 under the Ministry of Culture and Communication that promotes creation of visual arts. It provides assistance to artists and galleries, and manages the '' Fonds national d'art contemporain'' (FNAC; National Foundation for Contemporary Art). Background The Cnap has its origins in the ''Division des Beaux-Arts'' (Fine Arts Division) created in 1791 just after the French Revolution with its own budget to encourage living artists and educate citizens. This was succeeded in turn by the ''Bureau des Beaux-Arts'' in 1800, ''Bureau de l'encouragement des Arts'' in 1879, the ''Bureau des Travaux d'art'' in 1882 and finally the ''Centre national des arts plastiques'' (Cnap) in 1982. Bass Museum
The Bass Museum of Art is a contemporary art museum located in Miami Beach, Florida. The Bass Museum of Art was founded in 1963 and opened in 1964. History Early years John Bass (1891-1978) and Johanna Redlich (m. Feb. 21, 1921) were Jewish-immigrants from Vienna, Austria who resided in Miami Beach. As President of the Fajardo Sugar Company of Puerto Rico, John Bass was also an amateur journalist, artist (namely painting and etching) and composer of published music. Mr. Bass collected both fine art and cultural artifacts, including a sizeable manuscript collection that now lives in the Carnegie Hall Archives. In 1963, the couple bequeathed a collection of more than 500 works, including Old Master paintings, textiles and sculptures to the City of Miami Beach, under the agreement that a Bass Museum of Art would remain open to the public in perpetuity. The Museo de Arte Moderno (Museum of Modern Art) is located in Chapultepec park, Mexico City, Mexico. Pinacoteca Do Estado De São Paulo
The ''Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo'' (Portuguese for "pinacotheca (picture gallery) of the state of São Paulo") is one of the most important art museums in Brazil. Nouveau réalisme (French: new realism) refers to an artistic movement founded in 1960 by the art critic Pierre Restany and the painter Yves Klein during the first collective exposition in the Apollinaire gallery in Milan. Daniel Buren
Daniel Buren (born 25 March 1938, in Boulogne-Billancourt) is a French conceptual artist, painter, and sculptor. He has won numerous awards including the Golden Lion for best pavilion at the Venice Biennale (1986), the International Award for best artist in Stuttgart (1991) and the prestigious Premium Imperiale for painting in Tokyo in 2007. Niki De Saint Phalle
Niki de Saint Phalle (; born Catherine Marie-Agnès Fal de Saint Phalle; 29 October 193021 May 2002) was a French-American sculptor, painter, filmmaker, and author of colorful hand-illustrated books. Widely noted as one of the few female monumental sculptors, Saint Phalle was also known for her social commitment and work. She had a difficult and traumatic childhood and a much-disrupted education, which she wrote about many decades later. After an early marriage and two children, she began creating art in a naïve, experimental style. She first received worldwide attention for angry, violent assemblages which had been shot by firearms. These evolved into ''Nanas'', light-hearted, whimsical, colorful, large-scale sculptures of animals, monsters, and female figures.
