Catherine-Charlotte De Boufflers
Catherine Charlotte de Gramont (1670–1739) was a French court official, foremost known as the ''Marechale de Boufflers''. She served as ''Première dame d'honneur'' to the queen of France, Marie Leszczyńska, the wife of King Louis XV, from 1725 until 1735. Life Catherine-Charlotte was the daughter of Antoine Charles IV de Gramont and Marie Charlotte de Castelnau, and married duke Louis-François de Boufflers in 1693. In 1725, she was appointed to the office of ''Première dame d'honneur'' to the new queen of France, and as such was responsible for the female courtiers, controlling the budget, purchases, annual account and staff list, the daily routine and presentations to the queen. Marie Leszczyńska
Maria Karolina Zofia Felicja Leszczyńska (; ; 23 June 1703 – 24 June 1768), also known as Marie Leczinska, was Queen of France as the wife of King Louis XV from their marriage on 4 September 1725 until her death in 1768. The daughter of Stanisław Leszczyński, the deposed King of Poland, and Catherine Opalińska, her 42-years and 9 months service was the longest of any queen in French history. A devout Roman Catholic throughout her life, Marie was popular among the French people for her numerous charitable works and introduced many Polish customs to the royal court at Palace of Versailles, Versailles. Anne-Armande de Saint Gelais (1637-1709) was a French court official. She served as ''Première dame d'honneur'' to the queen of France, Maria Theresa of Spain, from 1679 until 1683. A lady-in-waiting or court lady is a female personal assistant at a court, attending on a royal woman or a high-ranking noblewoman. Historically, in Europe, a lady-in-waiting was often a noblewoman but of lower rank than the woman to whom she attended. Although she may either have received a retainer or may not have received compensation for the service she rendered, a lady-in-waiting was considered more of a secretary, courtier, or companion to her mistress than a servant. Marie Brûlart, ''duchesse de Luynes'' (1684–1763), was a French court official ('' dame d'honneur'') and close friend and confidante to Louis XV's queen consort, Marie Leszczyńska, whom she attended at Versailles for nearly thirty years (1735–63). Life Marie Brûlart de La Borde was the daughter of Nicolas Brûlart, marquis de La Borde, and Marie Bouthillier. In 1704 she married Louis Joseph de Béthune, marquis de Chârost (1681–1709), who was killed fighting against the British forces of the Duke of Marlborough at the Battle of Malplaquet, four days after the marquise gave birth to their only child: Marie Therese de Béthune-Chârost (1709–16), who died young. Joseph Marie De Boufflers
Joseph Marie de Boufflers, 2nd Duke of Boufflers (22 May 1706 – 2 July 1747) was a French nobleman and senior military officer. Early life Joseph Marie was the third, but only surviving, son of Louis-François de Boufflers and Catherine Charlotte de Gramont, daughter of Antoine Charles de Gramont, 3rd Duke of Gramont. His father was a marshal of France who was made a peer of France as Duke of Boufflers in 1708. Following the death of his elder brother, on 22 March 1711 he assumed the title Comte de Boufflers and on 28 March 1711 he was made colonel of his late brother's infantry regiment, despite being only five years old. On 22 August 1711, Joseph Marie inherited his father's title and estates. He also assumed his father's positions as governor of Flanders and Hainut, Lille, and Beauvais. Louis-François De Boufflers
Louis François de Boufflers, Duke of Boufflers (10 January 1644 – 22 August 1711) was a French soldier. He was created count of Cagny (modern Crillon) and duke of Boufflers and named marshal of France. Biography Louis-François was born at Crillon in Oise on 10 January 1644. He entered the army and saw service in 1663 at the siege of Marsal, becoming colonel of dragoons in 1669. In the conquest of Lorraine (1670), he served under the '' Marshal de Créqui''. In the Dutch Republic, he served under Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne, Vicomte de Turenne, frequently distinguishing himself by his skill and bravery; and when Turenne was killed by a cannon shot in 1675, he commanded the rear-guard during the retreat of the French army. Pitié-Salpêtrière University Hospital (french: Hôpital universitaire la Pitié-Salpêtrière, ) is a teaching hospital in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. Part of the and a teaching hospital of Sorbonne University. History The Salpêtrière was originally a gunpowder factory (saltpetre being a constituent of gunpowder), but in 1656 at the direction of Louis XIV, it was converted into a ''hospice'' for the poor women of Paris as part of the General Hospital of Paris. This main hospice was for women who were learning disabled, mentally ill or epileptic, as well as poor. In 1657 it was incorporated with the hospice of the Pitié designed specifically for beggars' children and orphans. Sheets for hospice and military clothing were produced there by the children.
