Cathedral Of Maldonado
The Cathedral of Saint Ferdinand of Maldonado ( es, Catedral de San Fernando de Maldonado) is the main Roman Catholic church building of Maldonado, Uruguay. Since 1966, it took the name of Cathedral for being the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Maldonado-Punta del Este, founded by S.S. Paul VI on January 10, 1966. Its first pastor was Antonio Corso (1966-1985), and its current pastor is Rodolfo Wirz (1985-Present). History A first church was built in Spanish colonial times. The construction of the present Neoclassical building was started in 1801, but the English Invasions 1806, interrupted the works, a delay that caused completion of the cathedral to take almost a century. Maldonado () is the capital of Maldonado Department of Uruguay. As of the census of 2011, it is the seventh most populated city of the country. The South American Continental Exhibition (Exposición Continental Sud-Americana) was held in Buenos Aires from 14 March to 31 July 1882. Organisation The fair was organised by the Industrial Club of Buenos Aires who had organised an industrial exhibition in Buenos Aires in 1877. Julio A Roca (president) inaugurated the exhibition with the honorary chair of the committee Nicolás Avellaneda stating that the exhibition represented industrial progress. Claudio López y Bru, 2nd Marquess of Comillas, GE (1853 in Barcelona – 1925 in Madrid), was a Spanish peer, businessman, and immensely rich shipping magnate and landowner. He inherited the companies his father Antonio López y López had founded. For thirty years, from 1895 to 1925, the Marquess of Comillas dominated Catholic policy-making on labour relations. Comillas sponsored Antoni GaudÃ's trip to Tangier and Tétouan in 1892, where the architect was inspired by Franciscan to design a complex for Catholic Missions in Tangier. Lobos Island
Lobos ( es, Isla de Lobos, ) is a small island of the Canary Islands (Spain) located just north of the island of Fuerteventura.
