Cathal Ó HOisín
Cathal Ó hOisín is an Irish Sinn Féin politician who was a Member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) for East Londonderry from 2011 to 2016. He lost his seat to his party running mate Caoimhe Archibald at the 2016 election. Ó hOisín was educated at St. Patrick's College, Maghera and Magee College, Derry. He was first elected to Limavady Borough Council at the 2005 local elections for the Benbradagh electoral area. He served as Mayor of Limavady from 2009 to 2010. East Londonderry (Assembly Constituency)
East Londonderry is a constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly. The seat was first used for a Northern Ireland-only election for the Northern Ireland Forum in 1996. Since 1998, it has elected members to the current Assembly. For Assembly elections prior to 1996, the constituency was largely part of the Londonderry constituency with a small part around Portrush coming from North Antrim constituency. Since 1997, it has shared boundaries with the East Londonderry UK Parliament constituency. 2010 United Kingdom General Election
The 2010 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 6 May 2010, with 45,597,461 registered voters entitled to vote to elect members to the House of Commons. The election took place in 650 constituencies across the United Kingdom under the first-past-the-post system. The election resulted in a large swing to the Conservative Party similar to that seen in 1979, the last time a Conservative opposition had ousted a Labour government. The Labour Party lost the 66-seat majority it had previously enjoyed, but no party achieved the 326 seats needed for a majority. The Conservatives, led by David Cameron, won the most votes and seats, but still fell 20 seats short. This resulted in a hung parliament where no party was able to command a majority in the House of Commons. East Londonderry is a parliamentary constituency in the United Kingdom House of Commons. The current MP is Gregory Campbell of the DUP. Constituency profile This is a mostly rural constituency stretching from the hill country of the Sperrin Mountains in the south to the Atlantic coast in the north; and from the suburbs of Derry city in the west to the River Bann in the east.
