Catapult (band)
Catapult were a Dutch glam rock band active between 1973 and 1979. The band formed in the Summer of 1973 when during a holiday in the Spanish resort of Lloret de Mar, Geertjan Hessing, Erwin van Prehn, Aart Mol and Cees Bergman decided to form a band. The four were veterans of the Dutch rock scene but had achieved little success up to that time. Later that year keyboard player Michael Eschauzier joined them. The band's name was suggested by Golden Earring vocalist Barry Hay. They released their first single, "Hit The Big Time", produced by ex Golden Earring drummer Jaap Eggermont early in 1974 and it reached no. 16 on the Dutch Singles Chart. Keyboardist Eschauzier was replaced in April 1974 by Elmer Veerfoff. The band had several hit singles between 1974 and 1975, the most successful being "Let Your Hair Hang Down" which reached no. 5 on the Dutch Singles Chart. Glam rock is a style of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s and was performed by musicians who wore outrageous costumes, makeup, and hairstyles, particularly platform shoes and glitter. Glam artists drew on diverse sources across music and throwaway pop culture, ranging from bubblegum pop and 1950s rock and roll to cabaret, science fiction, and complex art rock.P. Rubberen Robbie is a Dutch band (or "comedy act") from Leiden, Netherlands, best known for a parodic medley of Dutch-language songs that was a number-one hit in the Netherlands in 1981. It is the continuation of a successful 1970s glam rock outfit, Catapult; its members also formed a successful production and songwriting team, Cat Music, responsible for a number of Dutch hit songs. History The band was formed by various ex-members of a rock combo called Catapult, which split up in the early 1980s. Lloret De Mar
Lloret de Mar (; ) is a Mediterranean coastal town in Catalonia, Spain. It is south of Girona and northeast of Barcelona. With a population of 38,402 in 2021, it is the second largest town in the Selva comarca of Catalonia. Lloret de Mar attracts summer visitors on package tours. Golden Earring (originally known as The Tornados) was a Dutch rock band, founded in 1961 in The Hague as The Golden Earrings. They achieved worldwide fame with their international hit songs "Radar Love" in 1973, which went to number one on the Dutch charts, reached the top ten in the United Kingdom, and went to number thirteen on the United States charts, " Twilight Zone" in 1982, and "When the Lady Smiles" in 1984. During their career they had nearly 30 top-ten singles on the Dutch charts and released 25 studio albums. Barry Hay
Barry Andrew Hay (born 16 August 1948) is an Indian-born Dutch musician; he was the lead vocalist and frontman of Dutch rock band Golden Earring from 1967 until their disbandment in 2021. Biography Hay was born in Faizabad, India, to a Dutch-Jewish mother, Sofia Maria née Sluijter (1922–2004, born in Makassar), and a Scottish commissioned officer, Philip Aubrey Hay (1923–1980). He moved to the Netherlands at the age of eight to live with his mother. He lived in Amsterdam and later in The Hague, attending an English boarding school. After graduating from secondary school, he took courses at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. Music career and voice acting Hay started his music career with a band called The Haigs. Jaap Eggermont
Jacobus Johannes "Jaap" Eggermont (born 31 October 1946, The Hague) is a Dutch record producer, best known for his Stars on 45 project. Eggermont's first job in the musical profession was from 1965 until 1969 as the drummer of the band Golden Earrings. After leaving that band, which soon changed its name to Golden Earring, Eggermont became a record producer. He worked with such acts as Sandy Coast, Earth and Fire and Livin' Blues. The greatest success he had was in the early 1980s, with his project Stars on 45 Stars on 45 was a Dutch novelty pop act that was successful in Europe, the United States, and Australia in the early 1980s. The Dutch Top 40 ( nl, Nederlandse Top 40) is a weekly music chart compiled by ''Stichting Nederlandse Top 40''. It started as a radio program titled "Veronica Top 40", on the offshore station Radio Veronica in 1965. It remained "The Veronica Top 40" until 1974, when the station was forced to stop broadcasting. Joost den Draaijer initiated the Top 40 in the Netherlands. The show currently airs on Fridays from 2 to 6 PM on Qmusic.
