Rugby league football, commonly known as just rugby league and sometimes football, footy, rugby or league, is a full-contact sport played by two teams of thirteen players on a rectangular field measuring 68 metres (75 yards) wide and 112–122 metres (122 to 133 yards) long with H shaped posts at both ends. It is one of the two codes of rugby football, the other being rugby union. Barcelona Universitari Club is a Spanish rugby team based in Barcelona established in 1929. Between 2002 and 2009, the club signed a collaboration convenium with USA Perpignan. History The beginning In 1929, a group of players from different clubs founded Rugby Club Universitario, with Ramón Eiximeno as chairman of the entity. Its first match was played on 25 December of the same year against another historic Catalan rugby club team, UE Santboiana. Associació Catalana De Rugby Lliga
The Associació Catalana de Rugby Lliga (ACRL) (Catalan Rugby League Association) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in Catalonia. The Association was formed in 2007 and since then has organized and governed the Catalan competitions. Rugby league in the region of Northern Catalonia in Southern France come under the governance of the Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII. History In 2008 the first competition was held. Three teams played in the Catalan Cup: FC Barcelona, Aligots Girona and Nord-Català.
