Catacombs (1988 Film)
''Catacombs'' (also known as ''Curse IV: The Ultimate Sacrifice'') is a 1988 American horror film directed by David Schmoeller and starring Tim Van Patten, Ian Abercrombie, and Laura Schaefer. Plot In the 17th century, an order of monks in Italy capture and entomb a demon that has possessed a member of their group. 400 years later, school teacher Elizabeth Magrino (Laura Schaefer) visits the monastery in order to do some research. What she and the current monks do not realize is that the evil hiding within the catacombs has unwittingly been released. David Schmoeller
David Schmoeller (born December 8, 1947) is an American film director, producer and screenwriter. He is notable for directing several full-length theatrical horror films including ''Tourist Trap'' (1979), '' The Seduction'' (1982), ''Crawlspace'' (1986), '' Catacombs'' (1988), '' Puppet Master'' (1989), and ''Netherworld'' (1992). In May, 2012, Schmoeller was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Fantaspoa Film Festival in Porto Alegre, Brazil where his new feature film, ''2 Little Monsters'' (2012) was screened along with his other notable films. Life and career Schmoeller was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and was raised and educated in Texas. He completed a Masters program in Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin. Fluent in Spanish, he was briefly an interpreter for ABC Sports during the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. ''The Dungeonmaster'' (originally ''Ragewar: The Challenges of Excalibrate'' and ''Digital Knights'') is a 1984 American anthology fantasy film produced by Charles Band, and is split up into seven distinct story segments, each written and directed by a different person: Dave Allen, Band, John Carl Buechler, Steven Ford, Peter Manoogian, Ted Nicolaou and Rosemarie Turko.
