Cat Butt
Cat Butt was a Seattle, Washington rock group, formed in 1987. Initially, the band did a short West Coast tour, and then went on to record their first full-length album, ''Journey to the Center Of'', which was produced by Jack Endino of Skin Yard. To promote the album, the band did a large U.S. tour, before disbanding in late 1990. Although not as successful as other Sub Pop bands, they maintained a loyal cult following in the Pacific Northwest. The band is referenced in the first verse of the Guided by Voices song "Pendulum", from their 1990 album '' Same Place the Fly Got Smashed'': "Come on over tonight; we'll put on some Cat Butt and do it up right." Alternative Rock
Alternative rock, or alt-rock, is a category of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1970s and became widely popular in the 1990s. Rhythm Guitar
In music performances, rhythm guitar is a technique and role that performs a combination of two functions: to provide all or part of the rhythmic pulse in conjunction with other instruments from the rhythm section (e.g., drum kit, bass guitar); and to provide all or part of the harmony, i.e. the chords from a song's chord progression, where a chord is a group of notes played together. Therefore, the basic technique of rhythm guitar is to hold down a series of chords with the fretting hand while strumming or fingerpicking rhythmically with the other hand. Supersuckers
The Supersuckers are an American rock band, formed in 1988, whose music ranges from alternative rock to country rock to cowpunk. AllMusic describes the band as "the bastard sons of Foghat, AC/DC, and ZZ Top after being weaned on punk rock, unafraid of massive guitar riffs, outsized personalities, or pledging allegiance to sex, weed, and Satan with a wink and a nudge." The band formed in 1990, released recordings on the Frontier and Sony 550 record labels, and made a brief appearance in Doug Pray's motion picture documentary ''Hype!''. ZIPGUN (stylized in all-caps) are an American punk rock band from Seattle, Washington (state), Washington, United States, primarily active from 1991 to 1994. Best Kissers in the World is an American rock band from Seattle, Washington, formed in 1989 in Phoenix, AZ. History The original lineup consisted of Gerald Collier (lead vocals, guitar) and Danny Bland (bass, also of Cat Butt and Dwarves) who relocated to Seattle in 1990 where they added Sten Olson (guitar) and Andhi Spath (drums) shortly before signing to Sub Pop records. In 1991, the band released their eponymously named debut EP (Produced by Jon Auer of The Posies and Big Star) and toured with L7, Social Distortion, and Pegboy. U-Men
The U-Men was an American rock band, formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1980 and active until 1989. They toured extensively across the United States. Their musically "dirty" sound and off-the-wall sense of humor were a forerunner for the later grunge bands to come out of Seattle. History The U-Men were fronted by vocalist John Bigley and included Tom Price, Charlie "Chaz" Ryan, Robin Buchan, Jim Tillman, Tom Hazelmyer and later Tony "Tone Deaf" Ransom. Gas Huffer
Gas Huffer was an American garage rock band from Washington. They were known for their informal and comical lyrics and their antic-laden stage presence. History Gas Huffer classified themselves loosely in the garage punk genre. The band created comic books with each album (drawn by all four members of the band, including Joe Newton, now deputy art director for ''Rolling Stone'' magazine), that contain the lyrics to the songs. This was done for every album up to (and including) "Just Beautiful Music". Gas Huffer played its final show – dubbed "The Last Huffer" – at Seattle's Crocodile Cafe on January 14, 2006.
