''Casual Viewin is a 2000 album by Canadian alternative rock band 54-40. The title refers to a lyric from the Genesis song "Broadway Melody of 1974", which reads: "Marshall McLuhan, casual viewin', head buried in the sand." 54-40 commented in interviews at the time of the album's release that they were influenced by McLuhan's work when making the album, and that they adopted the Genesis lyric as a result. 54-40 (often stylized 54•40) is a Canadian alternative rock group from Tsawwassen, British Columbia. The band take their name from the slogan "54-40 or Fight!", coined to express the unsuccessful expansionist agenda of James K. Polk's presidency, which was intent upon controlling a contested U.S.-Canada border area in the Oregon boundary dispute. 54-40 has had a successful career, with four of their albums being certified Platinum in Canada. The band has been nominated for eight Juno Awards. Between 1996 and 2016, 54-40 were among the top 150 selling Canadian artists in Canada and among the top 50 selling Canadian bands in Canada. History Neil Osborne and Brad Merritt met in 1978 at South Delta High School in Tsawwassen, British Columbia. It is a two-disc set; as its name implies, one disc contains "heavy" rock performances and the other contains "mellow" acoustic renditions. Many acoustic album versions vary greatly from their studio counterparts, due to the addition of new instruments that weren't used before (such as accordions). These tracks include "Radio Luv Song", "Crossing a Canyon", and "Miss You". In addition, the live version of "Music Man" is extended compared to the studio version. Genesis (band)
Genesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, in 1967. The band's most commercially successful line-up consisted of keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins. The 1970s line-up, featuring singer Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett, was among the pioneers of progressive rock. Marshall McLuhan
Herbert Marshall McLuhan (July 21, 1911 – December 31, 1980) was a Canadian philosopher whose work is among the cornerstones of the study of media theory. He studied at the University of Manitoba and the University of Cambridge. He began his teaching career as a professor of English at several universities in the United States and Canada before moving to the University of Toronto in 1946, where he remained for the rest of his life.
