Castletroy College
Castletroy College is a Community School in Newtown, Castletroy, County Limerick, Ireland. It was founded in 2000. It has over 1,200 students. Achievements Sport The school's girls' basketball team have won the Senior Munster Cup final four times in a row and the senior all Ireland three times in a row. The school's girls' soccer team have been in more than 6 All-Ireland finals, winning more than half of them. A number of players from the school have also played at provincial and county level. In March 2008, Castletroy won both Munster Schools rugby premier competitions, the Munster Schools Junior Cup and the Munster Schools Senior Cup. Castletroy
Castletroy (, meaning O'Troy's Landing or O'Troy's Callow) is a suburb of Limerick, Ireland. The town was named after Castle Troy also known as The Black Castle, which is located on the southern bank of the River Shannon, roughly 2km East of the University of Limerick. However the name likely predates the castle itself as the area may have been used by the O’Turrain clan (who were no longer in the area by the time the castle was built) having used it as a safe harbour for navigating the river. The Munster Schools Junior Cup or Munster Junior Cup is the under-age rugby union competition for schools affiliated to the Munster Branch of the IRFU with team members under 16 years of age. The competition has been traditionally dominated by Cork city's major rugby playing schools C.B.C. with 19 titles & P.B.C. claiming 30 titles. The County Tipperary school Rockwell College has won 20 titles, with the remaining titles (22 in all), won by Limerick schools, largely due to contributions from Crescent College & St. Munchin's with 7 victories respectively. Munster Schools Senior Cup
The Munster Schools Senior Cup or Munster Senior Cup is the under-age rugby union competition for schools affiliated to the Munster Branch of the IRFU. The inaugural Munster Schools Senior Cup took place in 1909 and, since then, Cork city's two all-boys schools have been to the fore as the only rugby playing schools in the city. Christian Brothers College have 31 titles, whilst Presentation Brothers College have 30. Rockwell College (26) were once the team to beat in the competition, holding the record for most wins until the 1980s. However, Rockwell have only won the cup five times since. Limerick CBS (4) won Limerick's first trophies in the 1920s and 1930s, followed by Crescent College (11) which contributed three in the 1940s and 1950s, whilst St. Munchin's (5) won their first in 1968. The Limerick County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Chontae Luimneach) or Limerick GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Limerick. Paudie Fitzmaurice
Paudie Fitzmaurice (born 16 November 1949) is a hurler from Killeedy in County Limerick, Ireland, who featured in Limerick hurling teams of the 1970s. Fitzmaurice was part of the Limerick county hurling team which won the All-Ireland in 1973,) as well as in the 1974, 1980 and 1981 teams. He was captain when Limerick won the 1981 Munster Senior Hurling Championship Final. He is a two-time National League winner, and finished as top scorer when captaining Maynooth College to victory in the Fitzgibbon Cup in 1974. His achievements as a player were recognised in 1984 when Fitzmaurice received an All-Star award. Fitzmaurice continued to play competitive hurling for his native Killeedy until 1996. Gráinne Murphy
Gráinne Murphy (born 26 March 1993) is a former swimmer who represented Ireland at international level. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, though due to illness only swam the heats of the 400m Freestyle. She was forced to withdraw from the rest of the meet, including her focus event (the 800m Freestyle), where she would have been in contention for a place in the final. Career Murphy hails from Ballinaboola, New Ross, County Wexford. The BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, commonly called the Young Scientist Exhibition, is an Irish annual school students' science competition that has been held in the Royal Dublin Society, Dublin, Ireland, every January since the competition was founded by Tom Burke and Tony Scott in 1965.
