Castleton, Indianapolis
Castleton is a neighborhood area in Lawrence and Washington townships on the northeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Location and boundaries Historically, the former Town of Castleton was platted near present-day 82nd St. and the former Nickel Plate Road, about northeast of downtown Indianapolis. The "neighborhood area" encompasses a greater geography than the historic town, which is the basis for sociodemographic data collection. Castleton is bounded by 96th St. (north), White River (west), Interstate 69 (east), and 82nd St. and Interstate 465 (south). History Castleton was founded in 1852 by Thomas Gentry. The small town prospered as a service center for nearby farmers and travelers on the Nickel Plate Road. Stephen "Steve" Goldsmith (born December 12, 1946) is an American politician and writer who was the 46th mayor of Indianapolis. He also served as the deputy mayor of New York City for operations from 2010 to 2011. A member of the Republican Party, he ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor of Indiana in 1988 and governor of Indiana in 1996. He is currently the Daniel Paul Professor of Government, Director of Innovations in Government Program, and Director of Data-Smart City Solutions at the John F. Castleton Square is an enclosed shopping mall in the Castleton neighborhood on the northeastern side of Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. Built by Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation and Homart Development Company in 1972, it is owned and managed by Simon Property Group. It is the largest mall in the state of Indiana, and has remained so since its construction. The center's original anchor stores were JCPenney, Sears, Lazarus, and Woolworth. Expansions in 1990 and 1998 added to the total number of anchor and inline stores, while also adding a food court. The anchor stores are JCPenney, Forever 21, H&M, AMC Theatres, Dick's Sporting Goods, Macy's, and Von Maur; the former location of Sears has been vacant since 2018. Unigov
Unigov is the colloquial name adopted by the city of Indianapolis, Indiana, to describe its consolidated city–county government. By an act of the Indiana General Assembly, Indianapolis consolidated with the government of Marion County in 1970. Within Unigov are eleven "included towns". Under Indiana Code 36-3-1-4 sec. 4(a)(2)), included towns retain their identity as towns under Indiana law and have some limited autonomy. However, they are legally part of the Consolidated City of Indianapolis and are fully subject to the laws and control of the government of Indianapolis. Interstate 69 (I-69) currently has two discontinuous segments of freeway in the US state of Indiana. The original highway, completed in November 1971, runs northeasterly from the state capital of Indianapolis, to the city of Fort Wayne, and then proceeds north to the state of Michigan (reaching its capital city, Lansing and beyond).
