Castleisland Desmonds GAA
Castleisland Desmonds are a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Castleisland, County Kerry, Ireland. The club won its first County Championship in 1950. They won others in 1981, 1982 and 1984. They won the Munster Club Championship and All-Ireland Club Championship in 1985. Celebrity Bainisteoir In 2010, the club was selected to enter RTÉ's ''Celebrity Bainisteoir'' TV show. Their ''Celebrity Bainisteoir'' was Derek Burke from Crystal Swing. In the quarter finals, Castleisland played against Nuala Carey's Shannonbridge side from County Offaly. In the 2010 season of ''Celebrity Bainisteoir'', home advantage for each game bar the final was determined by an assault course challenge, which took place at the Irish Army's training camp in The Curragh, County Kildare. Mairead Farrell (Irish Radio Presenter)
Mairead Ronan (; born 3 April 1980) is an Irish television and radio presenter. Early life Ronan was born in Finglas on the Northside of Dublin. She attended a HR Management course after leaving school, but switched to a media course at Ballyfermot College of Further Education. Radio career Ronan was featured on ''The Ray D'Arcy Show'' that originally aired every weekday morning on Today FM. She initially interned on the show before being promoted to broadcasting assistant, and then became co-producer, also featuring as an on-air contributor. When Ray D'Arcy left Today FM, Ronan became the producer of The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show. In 2017, after fifteen years with the radio station Ronan left the radio station to focus on other projects. North Kerry Senior Football Championship
The North Kerry Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition for GAA clubs affiliated to the North Kerry Division of Kerry. The official name of the competition is The Bernard O'Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship, in honour of the late Bernie O'Callaghan (Beale) who was Chairman of the North Kerry GAA Board for 25 years (1974 to 1998) and did a huge amount of work for North Kerry football. The Championship runs from October to December each year but has on occasion continued into the New Year due to replays and postponements. Fourteen clubs are eligible to play in the Championship: Asdee, Ballydonoghue, Ballyduff, Ballylongford, Beale, Brosna, Castleisland Desmonds, Duagh, Finuge, Knocknagoshel, Listowel Emmets, Moyvane, St. Senan's and Tarbert. Kerry Intermediate Football Championship
The Kerry Intermediate Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kerry GAA clubs. Rathmore are the title holders (2022).. Teams 2022 Teams Honours The winners can be promoted to play in the Kerry Senior Football Championship in the year after they win this competition. The winners of the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship progress to the Munster Intermediate Club Football Championship, representing Kerry, later that year, or, as was the case in 2021, the following year. They often do well there and recent winners include Templenoe in 2019 and Na Gaeil winning in 2022 after winning the Kerry Intermediate Football Championship in 2021. Kerry Club Football Championship
The Kerry Club Football Championship is a Gaelic football championship played between senior clubs in Kerry, south-west Ireland. In the event of the Kerry Senior Football Championship being won by a divisional team, the winner of this competition represents Kerry in the Munster Senior Club Football Championship (as divisional teams cannot play in the provincial competition). The competition was not played in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Format Group stage The 8 clubs are divided into two groups of four. Over the course of the group stage, each team plays once against the others in the group, resulting in each team being guaranteed three group games. Ger Reidy
Ger Reidy (Irish: Gearóid Ó Riada), is a GAA goalkeeper currently playing for Castleisland Desmonds and Kerry. He made his intercounty debut in the National League fixture vs. Donegal in Austin Stack Park, Tralee. He went on to play in 3 further matches in Kerry's ultimately successful 2009 Allianz National Football League Division 1 campaign against Derry, Westmeath and Galway conceding only one goal (to Galway). For Kerry's 2009 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship campaign he was substitute goalkeeper and although he made no appearance, as a member of the winning squad, he gained his first All Ireland Senior Football medal. Following the retirement of Diarmuid Murphy he was widely tipped as a front runner for the No 1 shirt and started out the year by winning a McGrath Cup medal when Kerry overcame UCC in the final. Charlie Nelligan
Charlie Nelligan (born 1957 in Castleisland, County Kerry) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Castleisland Desmonds and at senior level for the Kerry county team between 1974 and 1991. He also played association football with Home Farm in Dublin and with the Irish amateur team. Playing career Club Nelligan played for his local Castleisland Desmonds club. He won a number of county club championship titles with Castleisland throughout the 1980s and 1990s. These victories allowed the club to represent the county in the provincial club championship. Mossie Lyons
Mossie Lyons is an Irish Gaelic football half-back who plays with the Castleisland Desmonds club side, and formerly with the Kerry county team. Playing career Lyons was first selected for the Kerry senior team in 2000, after playing for the county in the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship and All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship. Dermot Hannafin
Dermot Hanifin (born in Castleisland, County Kerry) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Castleisland Desmonds and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 1985 until 1993. His father, also Dermot, played with Kerry during the 1950s. Army career Hannafin is an officer in the Irish Army. Mary Geaney
Mary Geaney is an Irish sportswoman. She played senior ladies' Gaelic football for Kerry, senior camogie for Cork and is also a former Ireland women's field hockey international. In 1976 she captained Kerry when they won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship and in 1980 she captained Cork when they won the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship. She was the first player to captain a team to both championships. As a field hockey international, she was a member of the Ireland team that won the 1983 Women's Intercontinental Cup. In 2010 she was inducted into the Irish Hockey Association Hall of Fame. Donie Buckley
Donie Buckley (born early 1960s) is an Irish Gaelic football coach and former player. He played at full forward with his local club Castleisland Desmonds but never with the Kerry county team. His coaching has taken him all along the western coast from Clare to Galway, to Limerick, Kerry and Mayo. Career Buckley scored a last-minute goal for Castleisland Desmonds in the final of the 1985 All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship to defeat St Vincents. Soon after retiring from playing he became involved in coaching. His coaching career began in Clare where he led Milltown Malbay in 1990 and Faughs in 1994 to Clare Senior Football Championships. He served as joint manager with Michael Brennan of the Clare county team in 2006. He then moved on to the Galway county team, working as forwards coach under the management of Peter Ford for a year.
