Castlehaven GAA
Castlehaven Gaelic Football Club is a Cork GAA club in the parish of Castlehaven near the town of Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland. The club also draws players from the villages of Union Hall, Castletownshend and Tragumna. The club participates in competitions run by Cork GAA and by the Carbery divisional board. The club is primarily concerned with the game of Gaelic football, but has fielded hurling teams in the past. They went from playing at Junior B level in 1969 to reaching the Cork Senior Football Championship final only 10 years later. The club has remained at senior level ever since, even though it draws from a very small pool of players. Cork ( , from , meaning 'marsh') is the second largest city in Ireland and third largest city by population on the island of Ireland. It is located in the south-west of Ireland, in the province of Munster. Following an extension to the city's boundary in 2019, its population is over 222,000. Cork Junior Football Championship
The Cork Junior A Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Junior A Football Championship and abbreviated to the Cork JAFC) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking junior clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the fifth tier overall in the entire Cork football championship system. The Cork Junior Championship was introduced in 1895 as a countywide competition for teams deemed not eligible for the senior grade or second-string senior teams. At the time of its creation it was the second tier of Cork football. In its current format, the Cork Junior A Championship begins in September following the completion of the eight Divisional Junior Championships. Larry Tompkins
Larry Tompkins (born 13 June 1963) is a former Irish Gaelic football manager and player. Throughout his 20-year club career, he played for his adopted club Castlehaven, winning three Munster Club Championship titles during a golden age for the club; he had earlier played for his hometown club Eadestown, and also enjoyed championship successes. At inter-county level, he captained Cork to win the 1990 All-Ireland Championship; he had earlier claimed a first winners' medal as centre-forward on the 1989 All-Ireland-winning team. As well as being a successful captain for club and county, Tompkins was also selected for Leinster and Munster in the Railway Cup. Michael Maguire (Gaelic Footballer)
Michael Maguire (born 23 August 1965) is an Irish retired Gaelic footballer who played as a goalkeeper for the Cork senior team. Brian Hurley
Brian Hurley (born 2 April 1992) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays as a full forward for the Cork senior team. Born in County Cork, Hurley first played competitive Gaelic football during his schooling days. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team, before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2013 championship. Since then Hurley has become a regular member of the starting fifteen. Hurley has also lined out with the Munster inter-provincial team. Donie Collins
Donal "Donie" Collins (born 1 September 1950) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a right wing-forward for the Cork senior team. Collins joined the team during the 1971-72 National Hurling League and was a regular member of the starting fifteen for just one season until he left the panel after the 1972 championship. During that time he won one Munster medal and one National League medal. Collins was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level Collins was a record four-time All-Ireland medalist with Blackrock and James Stephens. In addition to this he has also won five Munster medals and five county club championship medals. Ned Cleary
Edward P. Cleary (17 March 1930 – 6 March 2021) was an Irish Gaelic football coach and trainer. Biography Born in Ballindine, County Mayo, Cleary joined the Castlehaven club after being stationed as a Garda in Castletownshend, County Cork. He had previously lined out with the Garda club in Cork. When his playing days ended he took over as team trainer, guiding the team to the South West junior B title tin 1969. The club's first ever divisional junior A title followed in 1973, followed by the County Junior Championship in 1976 and the County Intermediate Championship in 1978. After stepping down as trainer in 1982, Cleary took over as club chairman. Niall Cahalane (born 25 September 1963) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer. His league and championship career at senior level with the Cork county team spanned fourteen seasons from 1983 to 1997. Damien Cahalane (born 10 August 1992) is an Irish hurler and Gaelic footballer who plays as a centre-back for club sides St Finbarr's and Castlehaven and as a full-back at senior level with the Cork county hurling team.
