Castleford RFC (1896)
Castleford RFC was a semi-professional rugby league club based in Castleford in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England. They joined the Northern Union in 1896–97 for its second season and remained in the ranks of the (semi) professionals until the end of the 1905–06 season. Not much is known about the original Castleford club, except that they have no connection whatsoever with the present Castleford Tigers RLFC. History Early history The actual date of the founding of the club is uncertain. There is definitely a Castleford Rugby Union Club in existence long before the Great Schism, and they played in the old Yorkshire Cup competition, winning "T’owd tin pot" once and finishing runners up once before 1900. Salford Red Devils
The Salford Red Devils are a professional rugby league club in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, who play in the Super League. Formed in 1873, they have won six Championships and one Challenge Cup. Their home ground since 2012 has been the AJ Bell Stadium in Barton-upon-Irwell, before which they played at the Willows in Weaste. Sowerby Bridge was a (semi) professional rugby league club. The club was based in Sowerby Bridge, a small market town (population approx. 10,000) that lies within the Upper Calder Valley in the district of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, northern England, and approximately 3 miles from Halifax. The club joined the Northern Union in 1901-02 and played for the single season in the Yorkshire Senior Competition. History Sowerby Bridge rugby club was formed in the mid-1880s. In April 1899 the club won the Yorkshire Cup beating Alverthorpe 4–0 in a replay after the first game ended 0–0. Just four months later, the club changed codes to join the Northern Union and was elected to the Yorkshire Second Competition. Normanton (Rugby League)
Normanton is an amateur rugby league club based in Normanton, a small town within the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. The club joined the Northern Union in 1898–99 and played for a total of five seasons until 1905–06. They played at the Mopsey Garth ground. The club started out as founder members of the Yorkshire Senior Competition Division 2 (East), and moved as the competition structures changed. History The first rugby club in Normanton was established in 1879 and used the Midland Hotel as its base. The Keighley Cougars are a professional rugby league club from Keighley in West Yorkshire, England who compete in League 1, the third tier of English rugby league. Keighley's home ground, Cougar Park has a capacity of 7,800. History Early years The club was formed at a meeting held on 17 October 1876 under the presidency of the Reverend Marriner. A committee was elected and the club was allowed the use of Holmes' field in Lawkholme Lane. The first kick-off took place on Saturday afternoon, 21 October and the committee met again on 24 October and decided to adopt Association and Rugby football laws. On 18 November 1876, the first game took place at Lawkholme Lane. Dewsbury Rams
The Dewsbury Rams are a professional English rugby league club based in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire that compete in the Championship. They play their home games at the Tetley's Stadium, on Owl Lane. The Rams' main fanbase comes from their hometown of Dewsbury, but they also hold a strong following in Shaw Cross as well as in neighbouring Gawthorpe and Ossett, among other places. Radcliffe was a semi-professional rugby league club based in Radcliffe, a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester, England. Lancaster RFC was a semi-professional rugby league club based in Lancaster, Lancashire, England. The club first became members of the Northern Rugby Football Union (now Rugby Football League) in 1897, and joined the semi-professional ranks in the Lancashire Senior Competition in 1901–02. They played in the 2nd Division for the following three seasons. At the end of season 1904–05 the club left the league. The club was dissolved shortly afterwards. The 1900–01 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the sixth season of rugby league football. Season summary The Lancashire Senior Competition was won by Oldham and the Yorkshire Senior Competition by Bradford. In 1901 Bramley's James Lomas became rugby league's first £100 transfer, moving to Salford. Lancashire Senior Competition Barrow replaced Tyldesley. Although participating in the Lancashire Senior Competition, Runcorn and Stockport were from Cheshire, and Millom were from Cumberland. * St Helens had 2 points deducted for a breach of the professional rules.
