Castle Rock Estate is an Australian winery based at Porongurup, Western Australia, Porongurup, in the Great Southern (wine region), Great Southern wine region of Western Australia and owned and operated by the Diletti family. According to prominent Australian wine writer James Halliday (wine), James Halliday, it has an exceptionally beautifully sited and immaculately maintained vineyard, winery and cellar door (wine), cellar door sales area with sweeping vistas from the Porongurup National Park, Porongurups. Winemaker Castle Rock Estate's winemaker is Rob Diletti, son of founders Angelo and Wendy Diletti. Rob was one of 12 scholars at the 2005 Len Evans Tutorial, 2006 Wine Selectors Young Winemaker of the Year, a finalist for the 2012 Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year and, in 2015, Rob Diletti was named Wine Companion Winemaker of the Year. Porongurup National Park
Porongurup National Park is a national park in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It covers , and is southeast of Perth and north of Albany. The park contains the Porongurup Range, which is the relic core of an ancient mountain range formed in the Precambrian over 1200 million years ago. The Porongurup Range forms part of the Southwest Biodiversity Hotspot, which is one of 34 regions in the world noted for a rich diversity of flora and fauna species. James Halliday (wine)
James Halliday (born 1938) is an Australian wine writer and critic, winemaker, and senior wine competition judge. Since 1979 he has written and co-authored more than 40 books on wine, including contributions to the ''Larousse Encyclopedia of Wine'' and ''The Oxford Companion to Wine''. Since 1986 he has published an annual overview of Australian wine which (since 2000) has been entitled ''James Halliday Annual Wine Companion''. Jancis Robinson has described Halliday as the protégé of Len Evans, and his successor "as Australia’s leading wine writer". Career James Halliday studied law at the University of Sydney. He started his wine career while being a partner at Clayton Utz from 1966 to 1988 (with a break from 1974 to 1976 when he worked for a merchant bank). Porongurup, Western Australia
Porongurup is a small village on the northern slopes of the mountain range in the Shire of Plantagenet in Western Australia. At the , Porongurup had a population of 370. The name is derived from the Aboriginal place-name, and consequently arrived with no spelling as such. A common alternate spelling is Porongorup and while some maps still show this spelling, state government signs around the town use "Porongurup", as does the promotion association for the region. The mountain range includes Castle Rock, a popular climbing destination, and the Devils Slide. Industry The main industry in the region is dairying, but there are some vegetable crops grown as well.
