Castaic Creek
Castaic Creek (Chumashan languages, Chumash: ''Kaštiq'') is a , accessed March 16, 2011 stream in the Sierra Pelona Mountains, in northeastern Los Angeles County, California. It is a tributary of the Santa Clara River (California), Santa Clara River. Castaic Lake Castaic Dam on the creek forms Castaic Lake, but most of the water comes from the West Branch of the California Aqueduct#West Branch, West Branch California Aqueduct, part of the California State Water Project. The lake is the terminus for west branch of the aqueduct. The aqueduct delivers water to the lake by a pipeline from Pyramid Lake (Los Angeles County, California), Pyramid Lake. Besides storing drinking water, Castaic Lake is the lower reservoir in a Pumped-storage hydroelectricity, pumped-storage hydroelectric system. Pumped-storage hydroelectricity (PSH), or pumped hydroelectric energy storage (PHES), is a type of hydroelectric energy storage used by electric power systems for load balancing. The method stores energy in the form of gravitational potential energy of water, pumped from a lower elevation reservoir to a higher elevation. San Francisquito Creek (Santa Clara River)
San Francisquito Creek, in Los Angeles County, is a tributary stream of the Santa Clara River. It drains the south facing slopes of the Sierra Pelona Mountains of the San Gabriel Mountains within the Transverse Range of California, United States. Castaic Power Plant
Castaic Power Plant, also known as the Castaic Pumped-Storage Plant, is a seven unit pumped-storage hydroelectric plant, operated by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, which provides peak load power from the falling water on the West Branch of the California State Aqueduct.
