Caspar Ritter
Caspar Ritter (7 February 1861, Esslingen am Neckar - 18 July 1923, Ermatingen) was a Swiss portrait painter; primarily of women. He also created genre scenes and nudes. Life and work He was the second of eight children born to Johann Ulrich Ritter, a spinning mill director who was originally from Switzerland. He completed secondary school in Winterthur, where he lived with his grandfather. After graduating, in accordance with his father's wishes, he served an apprenticeship as a machine technician in Flums then, in 1879, went back to Winterthur, where he took a position at the Rieter & Co. textile machine factory. He soon developed health problems, which gave him an opportunity to express his preference for a career in art. The Order of Berthold the First was a dynastic order in the Grand Duchy of Baden. It was established on 29 April 1877 by Frederick I, Grand Duke of Baden to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of his accession as an additional class above the grand cross of the Order of the Zähringer Lion. On his seventieth birthday Frederick I separated it from that order and gave it statutes as an order in its own right. Jakob Christoph Heer (17 July 1859, Winterthur - 20 August 1925, Zürich) was a Swiss novelist and travel writer. Life and career His father, Christoph (1833-1913), was a Fitter (occupation), fitter who served in the Winterthur city government. In 1879, he was awarded a teaching certificate from the Kantonsschule Küsnacht. He originally worked as a "vicar" (substitute teacher) in Glattfelden then, in 1882, found a permanent position in Dürnten. His first book, ''Holidays on the Adriatic'', was published in 1888. He became the features editor for the ''Neue Zürcher Zeitung'' in 1892. The following year, he married Emma Karoline Gossweiler (1859-1936), daughter of Adolf Gossweiler, an engineer. The Staatliche Kunsthalle (State Art Gallery) is an art museum in Karlsruhe, Germany.
