Morris County, Texas
Morris County is a county located near the eastern border of the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, its population was 11,973. Its county seat is Daingerfield. Morris County is probably named for William Wright Morris, an early judge and planter from Henderson, also in northeast Texas. As of 2016, Morris County is no longer one of six prohibition, or entirely dry, counties in the state of Texas. Morris County is now "partially wet." History In the nineteenth century, this area was settled primarily by European-American planters and farmers, many of whom brought enslaved African Americans with them or purchased others to work as laborers on the cotton plantations they developed. State Highway 11 (SH 11) is a highway that runs from US 59 (Future I-369) in Linden to SH 56 in Sherman in northeast Texas. Route description SH 11 begins at an intersection with State Highway 56 on the easternedge of Sherman, just north of the Sherman Regional Airport. The route then travels to the southeast through Northeast Texas. In 2009, it was rerouted around the city of Commerce, concurrent with State Highway 24 and State Loop 178, with the old routing through Commerce transferred to a business route. It continues southeast toward Sulphur Springs, where it shares a concurrency with State Highway 154 and the old routing of US 67, and intersects I-30 on the south side of town. Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District (DLSISD) is a public school district based in Daingerfield, Texas (USA). Located in Morris County, where it includes Daingerfield and most of Lone Star, a small portion of the district extends into Titus County. This small district obtains its name from the two towns which, at one time, held at least one school. Lone Star Elementary was a small addition to the remaining four schools that now make up the entire district. The building in Lone Star was shut down in 2010, forcing all of the students to attend either West or South Elementary. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency.
