Casablan
''Kazablan'' (''Casablan'' or ''Kasablan'' in its first production; Hebrew: קזבלן) is an early Israeli Hebrew language play, staged first as a 1954 drama followed by a 1964 screen adaptation, later as a 1966 musical comedy, and still later produced as a 1974 musical comedy film. The name ''Kazablan'' comes from ''Casablanca'', the birthplace of the main character. The musical's huge success made "young Jerusalem-born singer" Yehoram Gaon "not only...an overnight singing star, but also a figure of solidarity and pride for people of Sephardic origin, many of whom were entering a theatre for the first time." Gaon later reprised his role in the film version. Plot The story has been called an Israeli adaptation of ''Romeo and Juliet'', and the musical "an Israeli version of ''West Side Story''. Yigal Mossinson
Yigal Mossinson (alternate spellings include Igal Mossinsohn and Yigal Mosenzon) (25 December 1917 – 1 May 1994) was an Israeli novelist, playwright, and inventor. He was the author of the Hasamba children's book series. Among his many awards was the David's Violin Prize for '' Casablan'', the 1954 play upon which the Israeli musical comedy stage and screen hit ''Kazablan'' was based. Biography Mossinson, son of Asher Mossinson and his wife Dvora, was born in Ottoman Palestine in 1917, in the moshav Ein Ganim, located near Petah Tikva; he grew up in Tel Aviv. Giora Godik
Giora Godik (1921–1977) was a Polish-born Jewish Israeli theater producer and impresario, famous for bringing musical comedies to Israel. Called the "King of musicals," the 2007 film documentary, " Waiting for Godik", tells the story of his rise and fall from one of the most "legendary" theater figures in Israel—someone who "endeavored...to bring the American dream to Tel Aviv", to someone destitute, who hit bottom. Arieh Elias
Arieh Elias ( he, אריה אליאס. 1 April 1921 – 7 May 2015) was an Israeli actor. Biography Arieh Elias was born in Baghdad. In 1941, he was the first Jew to be accepted to the drama faculty of Baghdad's Academy of Fine Arts. Elias immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1947. He joined the Palmach and fought in the War of Independence. At first he had trouble finding work as an actor due to his pronounced Arabic accent, but his popularity grew after playing the lead in the Israeli film ''HaYeled Me'ever LaRechov'' (The Boy Across The Street) in 1965. Acting and film career In the early 1960s, he directed the theater troupe of the Frank Sinatra Center in Nazareth, staging Jean d'Arc, Nasser Aladdin and Majnun Night for El-Hadit Theater. Haim Hefer
Haim Hefer ( he, חיים חפר 29 October 1925 – 18 September 2012) was a Polish-born Israeli songwriter, poet and writer. He wrote for numerous composers and musical artists, as well as for military bands. Several of his songs, including "Hafinjan" and "Hayu Zmanim", are considered Israeli classics. He was awarded the Israel Prize in 1983 as recognition for his contributions to Israeli music. ''Fiddler on the Roof'' is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein, set in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia in or around 1905. Yehuda (Jean-Bernard) Moraly, a theater researcher, playwright, director and actor, is a professor emeritus of Theater studies at the Hebrew University.
