Carver, Massachusetts
Carver is a town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States. The population was 11,645 at the 2020 census. It is named for John Carver, the first governor of the Plymouth Colony. The town features two popular tourist attractions: Edaville USA theme park and King Richard's Faire, the largest and longest-running renaissance fair in New England. History and overview Archaeological research revealed 9,000 years of settlement at the Annasnappet Pond Site in Carver, from 10,000 to 1,000 years ago. The site contained 100,000 stone flakes, 1600 stone tools and a human burial. Carver separated from Plympton, Massachusetts, and was incorporated in 1790 because many residents lived too far away to attend church in Plympton. Carver Junior College
Carver Junior College, in Cocoa, Florida, was established by the Brevard County Board of Public Instruction in 1960 to serve black students, at the same time that it founded Brevard Junior College, now Eastern Florida State College, for white students. It was named for the black agricultural researcher George Washington Carver. Like 10 of Florida's other 11 black junior colleges, it was founded as a result of a 1957 decision by the Florida Legislature to preserve racial segregation in education, mandated under the 1885 Constitution that was in effect until 1968. Carver College is a private Bible college located in Atlanta, Georgia. It was established in 1943 as the Carver Bible Institute. The institute was founded by Solomon Randolph, a Black pastor in Atlanta, and Grace and Talmage Payne, graduates of the Moody Bible Institute. It was named after the agricultural scientist George Washington Carver. The campus underwent major renovations in 1997, including remodeling the administration building, the gymnasium and establishing a new bookstore for the campus. The college received full accreditation from the Association for Biblical Higher Education in 2006. In 2009, the Carver Bible College was renamed Carver College. The Hotel Carver
The Hotel Carver is a three-story Victorian Building with full basement at 107 S. Fair Oaks Avenue in Pasadena, California. It was built in the late 1880s as part of the Doty Block in the Old Pasadena district. According to sources at the Pasadena Museum of History, it originally was a showroom for a stage coach or carriage company. In later years it was a freight depot for the Pasadena and Los Angeles Railroad, which became part of the Pacific Electric Railway, and which is indicated by the faded "Pasadena and Los Angeles" sign on the South wall. In the early 1900s the building was converted to the Hotel Mikado and served the Japanese American community. Carver was a yacht builder located in Pulaski, Wisconsin in the United States. Their models ranged from 18 feet to 57 feet. Carver Savings And Loan Association
The Carver Savings and Loan Association (Carver S&L) opened in 1944 as the first African-American financial institution in Omaha, Nebraska. Located at 2416 Lake Street next to the historic North 24th Street corridor, it was in the heart of the Near North Omaha neighborhood, and Omaha's African-American business district. In the 1950s, Whitney Young, then head of Omaha's Urban League, worked with the Carver S&L to create a special lending program for prospective African-American home buyers. It was designed to fight the city's segregationist red lining practices, by which banks restricted loans in neighborhoods they thought to be less successful. Minority and immigrant communities were disproportionately affected by these policies, which made it challenging for their residents to obtain loans.
