Caruaru
Caruaru is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Pernambuco. The most populous city in the interior of the state, Caruaru is located in the microzone of Agreste and because of its cultural importance, it is nicknamed ''Capital do Agreste'' (Portuguese for the "capital city of the Agreste region"), ''Princesinha do Agreste'' ("Little Princess of Agreste"), and ''Capital do Forró'' ("the capital city of ''forró''"). The city is located 140 kilometers (87 miles) from the state capital of Recife, which has an international airport. However, Caruaru has its own airport. Caruaru is renowned for its extensive '' Festival de São João'' ("Saint John's Festival"), which takes up the whole month of June, sometimes extending into July. Caruaru had a 2020 resident population of 365,278 inhabitants, living in a land area of 920.61 square kilometers (355.45 square miles). Raquel Lyra
Raquel Teixeira Lyra Lucena (born 2 December 1978) is a Brazilian lawyer, politician and the current governor of Pernambuco since 2023. Lyra was mayor of Caruaru from 2017 to 2022. A member of a political family, she previously served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco. She is affiliated to the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) but was a member of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB). Early career Lyra was born to João Lyra Neto, the former mayor of Caruaru and Governor of Pernambuco, and Mércia Lyra, daughter of the former mayor of Caruaru João Lyra Filho and niece of Itamar Franco's Minister of Justice Fernando Lyra, Fernando Soares Lyra. Lyra was elected to the state legislative of Pernambuco in the 2010 elections with 49,610 votes. Caruaru Airport
Oscar Laranjeiras Airport is the airport serving Caruaru, Brazil. It is operated by Dix Empreendimentos. History The airport was commissioned in 1985 but remained closed from 2003 to 2006 due to repair works on the apron: twice, in 2000 and 2002, the apron collapsed under the weight of aircraft. Bezerros
Bezerros () is a municipality in northeastern Brazil, in the State of Pernambuco, near the city of Gravatá. Its population was 60,880 (2020) and its area is 491 km2.
