Carty or Carthy is a surname likely to have originated from the Irish name Ó Cárthaigh (Connacht and , ; anglicised as O'Coraic). It took its current form ''Carty'' during later historical events when many Gaelic Irish names were anglicised. It has been speculated that some Irish immigrants to America and/or their descendants added ''Mc'', changing their names to McCarty in the incorrect belief that they were returning the name back to its original form. The Carty name originates from the south of the island of Ireland Wexford and could have been a subclan of the much larger McCarthy clan, and a member of the Clan Eoghanachta. The Miss North Carolina Teen USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of North Carolina in the Miss Teen USA pageant and is part of the RPM Productions group. North Carolina has been moderately successful at Miss Teen USA, but has never won the title. Ricardo Adolfo Jacobo Carty (born September 1, 1939), nicknamed "Beeg Boy", is a Dominican former professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as an outfielder from 1963 to 1979, most prominently as a member of the Atlanta Braves where he helped the franchise win its first National League Western Division title in . Carty had a career batting average of .299 and, was the 1970 National League (NL) batting champion with a .366 batting average. Paddy Carty (1929–1980) was a three-time all-Ireland champion Irish flute player from Loughrea, County Galway. He was well known for his flowing rhythm and his virtuoso skill on his Radcliff System flute, on which he could play freely in key signatures usually considered to be difficult on the Irish flute. Mother Mary Praxedes Carty (born Susan 1854 - December 16, 1933) was an Irish American educator and member of the Roman Catholic order of the Sisters of Loretto. Mother Praxedes worked throughout the Southwestern and Western areas of the United States building and improving churches and schools. She is known for updating the constitution for the order of the Sisters of Loretto, helping to build the school now known as Webster University and for founding the Loretto Academy in El Paso, Texas. John Carty is an Irish musician. Considered by many as one of Ireland’s best traditional musicians, Carty plays fiddle, tenor banjo, tenor guitar and occasionally the flute. He is very interested in the North Connacht traditional music style. Carty was born in London and now lives in Boyle, County Roscommon. His first fiddle album, ''Last Night's Fun'', which released on Shanachie Records in 1996 has been described as a milestone in recorded fiddle music. John Carty (12 August 1950 – 30 January 2014) was an Irish Fianna Fáil politician. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) from 2002 to 2007 and as a Senator from 2007 to 2011. From Knock, County Mayo, Carty was elected at the 1999 local elections as a member of Mayo County Council for the Claremorris electoral area. At the 2002 general election, he was elected to Dáil Éireann for the Mayo constituency.
