Cartvale F.C. (1878)
Cartvale Football Club was a short-lived football club from Busby, East Renfrewshire that existed from 1878 until 1890. The club regularly competed in the Scottish Cup and reached the semi-finals in 1882. History The club was founded in 1878, originally playing at Overlee Park, moving to Cartsbridge Park by 1879. Its first entry into the Scottish Cup was in 1878–79, ending in defeat to Arthurlie in the first round. The club's best run in the competition came in 1881–82, thanks in part to an unusual occurrence. The club beat Renfrew in the first round, but, thanks to a clerical error, was omitted from the second round draw, and had to be given a bye. The club reaped the benefits of the bye, as it went on its best-ever Cup run, reaching the semi-finals. However the club was overmatched against Dumbarton, conceding a goal in the second minute, turning around at half-time 5–1 in arrears, and ultimately losing 11–2. Busby, East Renfrewshire
Busby is a village in East Renfrewshire, Scotland. Busby is in the same urban area as Glasgow, although it is administratively separate. It lies on the White Cart Water south of Glasgow City Centre and northwest of the outskirts of East Kilbride. It directly adjoins the town of Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, Clarkston, with which the village is closely associated. History As a settlement, Busby dates back at least 700 years. Historically, the village was called Bushby. Its modern origins may be dated to several significant changes in the 1780s. The first big change was in the landscape. Old Firm
The Old Firm is the collective name for the Scottish football clubs Celtic and Rangers, which are both based in Glasgow. The two clubs are by far the most successful and popular in Scotland, and the rivalry between them has become deeply embedded in Scottish culture. It has reflected, and contributed to, political, social, and religious division and sectarianism in Scotland. As a result, the fixture has had an enduring appeal around the world. Between them the two clubs have won 107 Scottish League championships (Rangers with 55 and Celtic with 52), 74 Scottish Cups (Celtic with 40 and Rangers with 34), and 47 Scottish League Cups (Rangers with 27 and Celtic with 20). Tom Dunbar (footballer)
Thomas Dunbar (18 August 1868 – 28 April 1908) was a Scottish footballer who played for Celtic and Rangers. He is one of only two players to cross the Old Firm divide twice, the other being Kenny Miller. Career Having played once for the team in the Scottish Cup in 1888 (a match in which his elder brother Michael also played), Dunbar signed for Celtic from Busby Cartvale in 1890.
