Matt Wuerker
Matt Wuerker () is a Pulitzer Prize-winning American political cartoonist and founding staff member of ''Politico''. Career Wuerker graduated from Lewis & Clark College with a BA in 1979. While there, he served as the chief editorial cartoonist for ''The Pioneer Log'', the weekly student newspaper. He has published two collections of cartoons, ''Standing Tall in Deep Doo Doo, A Cartoon Chronicle of the Bush Quayle Years'' (Thunder's Mouth Press, 1991) and ''Meanwhile in Other News... Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaque (born 15 May 1962), better known by his pen name Zunar, is a political cartoonist. In 2015 he faced up to 43 years in prison for criticising the Malaysian government in a number of posts on Twitter and was charged under the Sedition Act 1948. The charges were dropped after the change of government in 2018. In May 2016 he was the recipient of the Cartooning for Peace award in Geneva. Badiucao (; born c. 1986) is a Chinese political cartoonist, artist and rights activist based in Australia. He is regarded as one of China’s most prolific and well-known political cartoonists. He adopted his pen-name to protect his identity. Early life and education Badiucao was born in c. 1986 and raised in urban Shanghai. His paternal grandfather was a pioneer filmmaker, who was persecuted after the communists came to power, sent to laogai farms in Qinghai during the Anti-Rightist Campaign, and starved to death. Ramón Nse Esono Ebalé (born November 22, 1977) is an Equatorial Guinean illustrator and comics artist. He draws under the pseudonym Jamón y Queso ("Ham and Cheese" in Spanish). Ebalé was born in Micomeseng in northern Equatorial Guinea. Mostly self-taught, he also received drawing instruction at Centro cultural de España en Malabo. Atena Farghadani ( fa, آتنا فرقدانی; born 29 January 1987) is an Iranian artist and political activist, who was imprisoned for 18 months. Amnesty International considers her a prisoner of conscience. She was released on 3 May 2016. Arrest and imprisonment One of her cartoons, in which she criticized a draft law which would outlaw voluntary sterilisation and restrict access to measures of birth control, portrayed Iranian government officials as monkeys and goats. Akram Raslan
The death of Akram Raslan, an artist known for his political cartoons, at the hands of the government of Syria brought condemnation from various publications around the world. Drawing themes from the Syrian civil war, Raslan had drawn images expressing criticism of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad and Assad's actions against the Syrian people, as well as criticism of institutions such as the United Nations.
