Carson Williams (baseball)
Carson Everett Williams (born June 25, 2003) is an American professional baseball and shortstop in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Amateur career Williams grew up in San Diego, California and attended Torrey Pines High School. As a senior, he batted .495 with 11 home runs and 34 stolen bases. Williams committed to played college baseball for the University of California, Berkeley. Professional career Williams was selected 28th overall in the 2021 Major League Baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. Williams signed with the Rays for a $2.35 million signing bonus. Williams made his professional debut with the Rookie-level Florida Complex League Rays, slashing .282/.404/.436 with four doubles, eight RBIs, 13 strikeouts and six walks over 39 at-bats. The Charleston RiverDogs are a Minor League Baseball team of the Carolina League. They are located in Charleston, South Carolina, and are the Single-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. Durham Bulls
The Durham Bulls are a Minor League Baseball team of the International League and the Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays. They are located in Durham, North Carolina, and play their home games at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, which opened in 1995. Established as the Durham Tobacconists in the North Carolina League in 1902, the team subsequently disbanded and restarted numerous times. After a 10-year hiatus, it was reestablished as the Durham Bulls and played in the North Carolina State League from 1913 to 1917. The Bulls were members of the Piedmont League from 1920 to 1933 and for a second time from 1936 to 1943. Durham competed in the Carolina League from 1945 to 1971. The Carolina League is a Minor League Baseball league which has operated along the Atlantic Coast of the United States since 1945. Having been classified at various levels throughout its existence, it operated at Class A-Advanced from 1990 until its demotion to Single-A following Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. In baseball, an at bat (AB) or time at bat is a batter's turn batting against a pitcher. An at bat is different from a plate appearance. A batter is credited with a plate appearance regardless of what happens during their turn at bat, but a batter is credited with an at bat only if that plate appearance does not have one of the results enumerated below. While at bats are used to calculate certain statistics, including batting average and slugging percentage, a player can qualify for the season-ending rankings in these categories only if they accumulate 502 plate appearances during the season.
