Carrum Football Club
The Carrum-Patterson Lakes Football Club is an Australian rules football club from Melbourne, that was founded in 1909 and currently plays in Division 3 of the Southern Football League. History Football has been reported to be played in Carrum since as early as 1902. Between 1902 and 1908 it has been well reported that a 'Carrum Football Club' played pre-season matches against the likes of Frankston Football Club and Mornington Football Club but never competed in an organised competition. A news article from the ''Mornington Standard'' in 1909 reported the formation of the 'Carrum Football Club' with R. W. Jones elected as President and M. McCauley and A. Rigby as Vice-Presidents. Despite forming a club in 1909 and playing one-off matches they would not compete in regular competition until 1911. "You're a Grand Old Flag" is an American patriotic march. The song, a spirited march written by George M. Cohan, is a tribute to the U.S. flag. In addition to obvious references to the flag, it incorporates snippets of other popular songs, including one of his own. Cohan wrote it in 1906 for his stage musical ''George Washington, Jr.'' History The song was first publicly performed on February 6, the play's opening night, at Herald Square Theater in New York City. "You're a Grand Old Flag" quickly became the first song from a musical to sell over a million copies of sheet music. The title and first lyric comes from someone Cohan once met; the Library of Congress website notes. "You're a Grand Old Flag" would go on to become one of the most popular U.S. marching-band pieces of all time. In the play itself, the scene with the Civil War soldier was replicated. Ron Stubbs
Ron Stubbs (born 3 October 1948) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn in the VFL. Stubbs spent a lot of time in the Hawthorn reserves and managed only 17 senior games during his four seasons. Six of them came early in the 1971 season, a premiership year for Hawthorn. Ron was a much respected player for Carrum, who at that time played in the MPFL. He played for Carrum before his Hawthorn time and afterwards. He was a member of the 1973 and 1974 Premiership teams(In the image of the 1974 team, he is in the back row 7th from the left). Ron was the Best and Fairest in the MPFL in 1968 and 1975.
