Carrickshock GAA
Carrickshock is an Irish Gaelic Athletic Association club situated in the south of County Kilkenny, Ireland. The club was founded in 1928 when the teams from Hugginstown and Knockmoylan were amalgamated in commemoration of the Battle of Carrickshock, 1831. Carrickshock have had success in the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship, winning the competition seven times. Their record of four county titles in a row between 1940 and 1943 remained unbroken until 2009 when Ballyhale Shamrocks won their 4th title in succession. Many players from the club have gone to achieve success with the Kilkenny intercounty team. Gaelic Athletic Association
The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA; ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael ; CLG) is an Irish international amateur sporting and cultural organisation, focused primarily on promoting indigenous Gaelic games and pastimes, which include the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball and rounders. The association also promotes Irish music and dance, as well as the Irish language. Sean O' (John) Farrell
Sean (John) O'Farrell (1909–72) was born on a family farm in Kilcurl, Knocktopher, Kilkenny, in the village of Ballyhale. He was a well-known figure in National Farming circles through his role as managing director, National Ploughing Association and National Ploughing Championships (1958–1972), through his farming roots and also recognized throughout Kilkenny GAA and Wicklow GAA sporting circles for his sporting achievements on the field and contributions to the game off the field. John migrated to the UK before World War II, where he played cricket with Surrey, England. He returned to Ireland and lived in Wicklow from 1942 where he set up his business in County Wicklow, married Lil Doyle, owner of the Lil Doyle landmark pub in Barndarrig, County Wicklow, and lived until his death in 1972. Michael Rice (hurler)
Michael Rice (born 27 January 1984) is an Irish hurling selector and hurler who plays for Kilkenny Intermediate Championship club Carrickshock. He was a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team for 12 years, during which time he usually lined out at midfield. Rice is currently a selector with the Kilkenny under-20 hurling team. Playing career Carrickshock After much success at underage levels, including several minor and under-21 championships, Rice quickly joined the Carrickshock senior team. In 2004 Rice won a county intermediate championship medal with Carrickshock following a narrow 0–14 to 1–10 defeat of Mooncoin. John Power (born 26 August 1992) is an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Carrickshock, County Kilkenny, Power first played competitive hurling during his schooling at St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2014 championship. Since then he has become a regular member of the team and has won two All-Ireland medals and two Leinster medals. John Dalton (hurler)
John Dalton (born 22 July 1985) is an Irish hurler who played as a corner-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Dalton joined the team during the 2006 championship. However, it took two years before he became a regular member of the starting fifteen. Since then he has won five All-Ireland winner's medals as a non playing substitute and four Leinster winner's medals on the field of play. He announced his retirement following the conclusion of the 2011 championship. At club level Dalton plays for Carrickshock, however, he has yet to win a county club championship winners' medal. John Tennyson (born 6 February 1985) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in County Kilkenny, Tennyson first played competitive hurling whilst at school in St. Kieran's College. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Kilkenny minor team, before later lining out with the under-21 and intermediate sides. Jimmy Walsh (Kilkenny Hurler)
James Walsh (4 February 1911 – 26 December 1977) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Ballyhale, County Kilkenny, Walsh first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny senior team. He made his debut during the 1932 championship. Walsh immediately became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won one All-Ireland medals, seven Leinster medals and eight National League medals. Pat Dwyer (hurler)
Patrick Dwyer (19 December 1965) is an Irish hurling manager and former player. At club level he played with Carrickshock and was also a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a full-back. Career Dwyer first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Carrickshock club before eventually joining the club's top adult team. He first appeared on the inter-county scene with the Kilkenny junior team that won the All-Ireland Junior Championship title in 1988. This success saw Dwyer drafted on to the Kilkenny senior hurling team in 1989. He was full-back on the Kilkenny team that won consecutive All-Ireland CHampionship titles in 1992 and 1993. Richie Power Snr
Richie Power (born 8 April 1957 in Carrickshock, County Kilkenny, Ireland) is an Irish former hurler who played for his local club Carrickshock and at senior level for the Kilkenny county team from 1982 until 1991. Playing career Club Power played his club hurling with his local Carrickshock club; however, he never won a senior county title. Inter-county Power first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Kilkenny minor hurling team. He won a Leinster title in this grade in 1975 before later winning an All-Ireland medal following a victory over Cork. Power later joined the county under-21 team and won both Leinster and All-Ireland honours in 1977. Power later joined the Kilkenny senior team and won a National Hurling League medal in 1982. Kilkenny Junior Hurling Championship
The J. J. Kavanagh & Sons Premier Junior Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kilkenny County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1905 for the third-tier hurling teams in the county of Kilkenny in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Nowlan Park in October. The prize for the winning team is the Bob Aylward Cup. The championship has always been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the series. The Kilkenny County Championship is an integral part of the wider Leinster GAA Junior Club Hurling Championship.
