Carr Ministry (1999–2003)
The Carr ministry (1999–2003) or Third Carr ministry was the 87th ministry of the New South Wales Government, and was led by the 39th Premier of New South Wales, Bob Carr, representing the Labor Party. The ministry covered the period from 8 April 1999, when Carr led Labor to victory at the 1999 state election, until 3 April 2003, when Carr's Labor government was re-elected at the 2003 state election. As of 2021 this is the last term of Parliament in which the elected Premier of New South Wales has served the full term. Composition of ministry The ministry was announced on 8 April 1999 and two new roles were created in March 2000. In June 2000 Jeff Shaw resigned from parliament to be appointed a judge of the Supreme Court, resulting in a reconfiguration of the ministry. The Government of New South Wales, also known as the NSW Government, is the Australian state democratic administrative authority of New South Wales. It is currently held by a coalition of the Liberal Party and the National Party. The Government of New South Wales, a parliamentary constitutional monarchy, was formed in 1856 as prescribed in its Constitution, as amended from time to time. Michael Knight (Australian Politician)
Michael Steven Knight AO (born 21 September 1952 in , New South Wales) is a former Australian Labor Party politician. He was member for Campbelltown in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly between 1981 and 2001. He served as Minister for the Olympics between 1995 and 2001 in the Carr Labor government. Background and early career Knight attended Doonside High School and Cranbrook School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Sydney and worked for the Campbelltown City Council as a social planner and parole officer before entering politics. Political career Knight entered the New South Wales Legislative Assembly at the 1981 election succeeding Cliff Mallam who had held the seat for ten years. 2000 Summer Olympics
The 2000 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXVII Olympiad and also known as Sydney 2000 (Dharug: ''Gadigal 2000''), the Millennium Olympic Games or the Games of the New Millennium, was an international multi-sport event held from 15 September to 1 October 2000 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Jeff Shaw (politician)
Jeffrey William Shaw, QC (10 October 194911 May 2010) was an Australian lawyer, judge and former Attorney General of New South Wales. Early life and education Shaw was educated at Boronia Park and Chatswood public schools, and Hunters Hill High School where he was a Sergeant in the school Cadet Corps. He graduated in Arts and Law at the University of Sydney in 1973, and also spent a period studying at Templeton College, Oxford. He married Elizabeth Bryant on 21 December 1974 and they had two sons. Legal career Shaw was admitted as a solicitor of the New South Wales Supreme Court in 1975 and as a barrister of that same court the following year. On 12 November 1986, Shaw was appointed Queen's Counsel. He specialised in industrial law. Politics Shaw was a member of the Labor Party (ALP). In New South Wales, regional ministers have been appointed since 1995 on a part-time basis as part of the Government of New South Wales. Each minister has other departmental responsibilities, as well as specific responsibilities for one of the regions of New South Wales.
