Carpegna
Carpegna is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Pesaro e Urbino in the Italian region Marche, located about west of Ancona and about southwest of Pesaro. Carpegna borders the following municipalities: Belforte all'Isauro, Borgo Pace, Frontino, Mercatello sul Metauro, Montecopiolo, Pennabilli, Piandimeleto, Pietrarubbia, Sant'Angelo in Vado, Sestino. The Monte Carpegna nearby is a ski resort. The communal territory is included in the Sasso Simone and Simoncello Regional Park. History According to legend, Odoacer gave Carpegna to his follower Armileone in 466. An assumed descendant of the latter, Ulderic of Carpegna, received the fief of Carpegna and other properties in the Montefeltro and Romagna regions from Otto I, Holy Roman Emperor. Daniel Varela Suanzes-Carpegna (born 1 April 1951 in Lugo) is a Spanish politician and former Member of the European Parliament with the People's Party, part of the European People's Party. He served in the European Parliament from 1994 to 2009. During his last mandate, he was vice-chair of European Parliament's Committee on International Trade and of its Committee on Fisheries. Gaspare Carpegna (8 April 1625 – 6 May 1714) was an Italian Catholic Cardinal. Early life Gaspare was born in 1625 in Rome. His mother was from the Spada family. He was a relative of the Cardinal Ulderico Carpegna of the Holy Roman Catholic Church who died in 1679. He was born in Rome on 8 May 1625, in the family of the Counts of Carpegna, the Montefeltro. The mother was a descendant of the aristocratic Spada family. Ecclesiastic career He was indirectly linked to Pope Clement X Altieri, since the pope's nephew had married Carpegna's sister. This pope elevated him to the rank of cardinal in the consistory of 1670. He was made a cardinal on 29 December 1670. Count Mario Gabrielli di Carpegna (August 19, 1856 in Rome – November 3, 1924 in Rome) was an Italian politician and soldier, and the founder of the Associazione Scouts Cattolici Italiani (ASCI) on January 16, 1916. di Carpegna served as Central Commissioner of ASCI at its foundation in 1916, and was the Chief Scout from 1922 until his death, as well as a founding member of the International Scout Committee. Massimo Carpegna (born 8 March 1955) is an Italian conductor. Biography After concluding the Scientific Lyceum studies with the highest score, he graduated in Choral Music and Conducting at Antonio Vivaldi Conservatoire (Alessandria, Italy), and he specialized in Orchestra Conducting (Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Siena; Verona Arena; Accademia Ottorino Respighi, Rome) with Maestro Franco Ferrara, who was teacher of Riccardo Muti, Riccardo Chailly and some of the most prestigious Italian and European orchestra conductors. The Accademia di San Luca (the "Academy of Saint Luke") is an Italian academy of artists in Rome. The establishment of the Accademia de i Pittori e Scultori di Roma was approved by papal brief in 1577, and in 1593 Federico Zuccari became its first ''principe'' or director; the statutes were ratified in 1607. Other founders included Girolamo Muziano and Pietro Olivieri. The Academy was named for Luke the Evangelist, the patron saint of painters. From the late sixteenth century until it moved to its present location at the Palazzo Carpegna, it was based in an urban block by the Roman Forum and although these buildings no longer survive, the Academy church of Santi Luca e Martina, does.
