Carpatho-Rusyn Society
The Carpatho-Rusyn Society (C-RS; rue, Карпато-Русинськоє Общество) is a non-profit cultural organization located in the United States dedicated to promoting Carpatho-Rusyn culture and history. It was established in Pittsburgh in 1994 and is the largest exclusively Carpatho-Rusyn organization in North America with over 3,000 members. C-RS works to educate those of Rusyn descent as well as others about Carpatho-Rusyn heritage. The society supports the preservation and development of Rusyn culture on both sides of the Atlantic. Establishment The impetus for development of C-RS emanated from the Second World Congress of Rusyns held in Krynica, Poland in 1993. ''The New Rusyn Times'' is the English-language membership publication of the Carpatho-Rusyn Society, an American nonprofit organization promoting Rusyn culture in the United States as well in the homeland in east Eastern Europe. Titus De Bobula
Titus de Bobula (1878–1961) was a Hungarian-American architect. He was born in Hungary to János Bobula, Sr. (1844–1903), a Budapest architect and politician, and he studied at Budapest University of Technology and Economics, along with his brother, János Jr. (1871–1922), who also became an architect. Titus de Bobula emigrated to the United States around 1897, living and working at times in New York City and Marietta, Ohio. In 1903, he arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he designed buildings for the next eight years. One of his major commissions was St. John the Baptist Greek Catholic Church in Munhall, Pennsylvania, patterned after the Rusyn Greek Catholic Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Uzhhorod, Austria-Hungary. Munhall, Pennsylvania
Munhall is a borough in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States, on the west bank of the Monongahela River, south of the confluence of the Monongahela and the Allegheny rivers where the Ohio River begins. It abuts the borough of Homestead. A large part of the Homestead Works of the Carnegie Steel Company existed in Munhall. Steel products were the only items made in Munhall in 1910 when 5,185 people lived here. In 1940, 13,900 people lived in Munhall. The population was 11,406 at the 2010 census. Munhall, along with the boroughs of Homestead and West Homestead, is served by the Steel Valley School District. History A post office called Munhall was established in 1887. WPIT
WPIT (730 AM) is a commercial radio station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It carries a Christian talk and teaching radio format. At night, Christian contemporary music is heard. WPIT is licensed to the Salem Communications Holding Corporation, which is owned by the Salem Media Group. The studios are at Parkway Center in Pittsburgh. By day, WPIT is powered at 5,000 watts; because 730 AM is a Canadian and Mexican clear channel frequency WPIT must reduce power to only 24 watts at night, to avoid interference. The Zakarpattia Oblast ( uk, Закарпатська область, Zakarpatska oblast) is an administrative oblast located in western Ukraine, mostly coterminous with the historical region of Carpathian Ruthenia. Its administrative centre is the city of Uzhhorod, Other major cities within the oblast include Mukachevo, Khust, Berehove, and Chop, the last of which is home to railroad transport infrastructure.
