Carolynn Sells
Carolynn Sells (born 6 May 1973 in Preston, Lancashire) is an English former road racer. She grew up around motorcycle racing, a sport her father Dave Sells took up when she was five years old. He began racing in the Manx Grand Prix when she was 12. She has stated that her sole purpose, when she began short circuit racing herself at the age of 27, was to obtain a National Race licence so she could race on the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course. The highlight of her racing career was winning the 2009 Ultralightweight Manx Grand Prix, making her the first and as of 2022, the only woman to win a solo race on the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course, an achievement that earned her a Guinness World Record, and made her the Isle of Man Sportswoman of the Year 2009. Preston () is a city on the north bank of the River Ribble in Lancashire, England. Manx Grand Prix
The Manx Grand Prix motorcycle races are held on the Isle of Man TT Course (or 'Snaefell Mountain Course, Mountain Circuit') every year for a two-week period, usually spanning the end of August and early September. New for 2022 is a period reduction from 14 to 9 days. The MGP or Manx (as it is more commonly known) is considered to be the amateur rider's alternative and a learning experience for the Isle of Man TT races held in May/June. The event differs from the TT in that it does not cater for Sidecar TT, sidecars. A 'Classic TT' race category for historic racing machines was added in 2013 as part of the Manx Government Department of Economic Development's expansion to create what is termed ''Festival of Motorcycling''. The Isle of Man TT Mountain Course or ''TT Course'' is a street and public rural road circuit located in the Isle of Man, used for motorcycle racing. The motorcycle ''TT Course'' is used principally for the Isle of Man TT Races and also the separate event of the Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling for the Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT Races held in September of each year. 2009 Manx Grand Prix
The 2009 Manx Grand Prix was held between Saturday 22 August and Friday 4 September 2009 on the 37.733-mile Mountain Course. The Blue Riband event of race week was won by Michael Russell claiming victory in the Senior. The Ultra-Lightweight race proved to be an historic event with Carolynn Sells becoming the first female solo winner on the Snaefell Mountain Course. A hat-trick of successive race wins was completed by Ryan Farquhar winning the Senior Classic race. The Junior Manx Grand Prix was won by Stephen McIlvenna and Sean Murphy the Newcomers Race with Adrian Kershaw winning Class B. The combined Junior Classic Race was won by Chris McGahan and Ewan Hamilton winning the 250 cc Class. Southern 100
The Southern 100 is a motorcycle road racing event held on the Isle of Man in July of each year. The event was first held in 1955, with three races for different classes of solo motorcycles; the 2015 calendar included twelve races for various classes.
