Caroline Chepkwony
Caroline Jepchirchir Chepkwony (born 27 April 1985) is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in road running competitions. She started her career as a track runner and she was the runner-up at the African Junior Athletics Championships in 2001 and won the 800 metres bronze medal at the 2004 African Championships in Athletics. She represented Kenya at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2007 All-Africa Games. From 2007 onwards she focused more on German and French road races. She is a two-time winner of the Hamburg Half Marathon and was the 2012 winner of the BIG 25 Berlin. She has a 10K best of 32:32, a half marathon best of 1:08:36 and a marathon best of 2:30:34. Career Born in Kapsigoria Village in Kenya's Elgeyo Marakwet county, Chepkwony's first success came at the 2001 African Junior Athletics Championships, where she was the silver medallist in the 5000 metres behind Vivian Cheruiyot. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. The simplicity of the competitions, and the lack of a need for expensive equipment, makes athletics one of the most common types of sports in the world. The athletics competition at the 2007 All-Africa Games was held on the Stade 5 Juillet 1962 in Algiers, Algeria between 18 July and 22 July 2007. Nigeria was the most successful nation of the competition having won nine golds and 24 medals in total. South Africa was a close second with seven golds and also a total of 24 medals overall. Tunisia and Botswana were the next most successful (both with five golds), although Ethiopia and Kenya had greater medal hauls. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. The 1500 metre race is predominantly aerobic, but anaerobic conditioning is also required. 2005 World Championships In Athletics
The 10th World Championships in Athletics, under the auspices of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), were held in the Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, Finland (6 August 2005 – 14 August 2005), the site of the first IAAF World Championships in 1983. One theme of the 2005 championships was paralympic events, some of which were included as exhibition events. Much of the event was played in extremely heavy rainfall. Background Bidding The original winning bid for the competition was for London but the cost to build the required stadium at Picketts Lock and host the event was deemed too expensive by the government.
