The Carolina Queens are a women's American football team based out of Charlotte, North Carolina playing in the Independent Women's Football League and owned by Ebony Kimbrough. Home games are played on the campus of Hopewell High School. From 2005–2007, the Queens were part of the Women's Professional Football League. Independent Women's Football League
The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) was the first Women's American football league established by women players for women players. The league was founded in 2000, began play in 2001, and played its last season in 2018. Members of the original roster of the Austin Outlaws were the league's founders. Following the establishment of the league as a separate entity from the team, former outlaws players Laurie Frederick, Jaime Bailey and Sandra Plato became the original IWFL executive council. Cape Fear Thunder
The Cape Fear Thunder is a football team in the Women's Spring Football League (WSFL) based in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Home games are played at John P. Daskyll Stadium on the campus of Reid Ross High School. The Thunder began in 2003 as the Fayetteville Thunder in the Women's Football League. After a one-season hiatus, the team returned to action as the Cape Fear Thunder. In 2005 and 2006, the Thunder played in the Women's Professional Football League. From 2007 to 2009, the Thunder competed in the Independent Women's Football League. 2011 saw the team moving to a new women's football league, the Women's Spring Football League. The Cape Fear Thunder captured the WSFL's 2011 8's Division National Championship after a 4-2-1 record for the season. Baltimore Nighthawks
The Baltimore Nighthawks are a women's American football team in the Women's Football Alliance. The Nighthawks played their inaugural game in Brooklandville at Martin D. Tullai Field (adjacent to St. Paul's School). The Nighthawks played the remainder of their home season at the Baltimore Lutheran School in Towson. The Baltimore Nighthawks support several charitable organizations including Healthcare for the Homeless, Special Olympics MD through the annual Polar Bear Plunge, various breast cancer groups, and the Central MD Girl Scouts. On March 21, 2009, the Nighthawks made women's football history when they hosted the first Pink Ribbon Bowl. The goal was to raise awareness about breast cancer and introduce professional women's tackle football to a broader audience. A portion of the proceeds benefited the Susan G. Atlanta Xplosion
The Atlanta Xplosion, known as the Atlanta Ravens for the year of 2011, was a football team in the Independent Women's Football League. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the Xplosion played their home games in nearby Smyrna, Georgia at Campbell High School. History 2003 The Xplosion was formed in 2003 as an IWFL exhibition team ("X-Team") from the players and staff of the defunct Atlanta Leopards team which played the NWFA. The Beniamino family was involved in all aspects of the team; in addition to the breadwinner Phil owning the team, his wife Denise played for the Xplosion (she played her husband's typical position of linebacker and wore his #33 uniform number). Jersey Justice
The Jersey Justice were an Independent Women's Tackle Football Team based in Carteret, New Jersey. The team was formed in 2008 with many former players and staff from the New Jersey Titans. Home games in 2011 are to be played on the campus of St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel Township, New Jersey. Prior to 2011 they played all home games at Carteret High School. The Justice elected to not finish the 2011 season after playing only 3 games and are defunct. History The Justice were established in late 2008 and originally planning to be a member of the National Women's Football Association.
