''Carnival Eats'' is a Television in Canada, Canadian television series about various eating establishments at carnivals in Canada and the United States. The series features host Noah Cappe as he travels to the many carnivals, state fairs and festivals to sample a variety of unique culinary creations available only at these aptly named "gastronomic freak shows". The show premiered on August 18, 2014 and airs on Fridays at 8:00 p.m. EDT. The series airs on Food Network Canada, Food Network in Canada, and on the Cooking Channel and Great American Country in the United States. Food reality television is a genre of reality television programming that considers the production, consumption and/or sociocultural impact of food. Reality food television emerged as a recognisable sub-genre in the 1940s. Historically, food reality television sought to educate viewers on matters of food. Early programmes such as ''Elsie Presents'', ''The Diane Lucas Show'' and '' Cook's Night Out'' imparted 'specific, practical skills' on the viewer, and provided ad-lib commentary on matters of homemaking, home entertaining and motherhood. As the genre evolved, and the Food Network channel launched, food reality television sought also to entertain. Contraband Days
The Louisiana Pirate Festival, Formally known as Contraband Days, is a 12-day festival filled with Cajun food, family fun, and festivities. Occurring annually in Lake Charles, it is among the larger celebrations in Louisiana, with an attendance of over 200,000. The Festival was first held in 1957. Held during the first two weeks of May, Contraband Days is the city's official celebration of the legend of the pirate Jean Lafitte. History tells that Lafitte and his band of pirates frequented the area's waterways; they are said to have buried Lafitte's contraband somewhere in the city's vicinity.
