Carnets De Bord
''Carnets de bord can also refer to a Swiss university newspaper of the University of Geneva'' ''Carnets de bord'' (French for ''logbook'') was the fifth studio album by Bernard Lavilliers released in 2004. The album reached number one in France and was also popular in other French speaking countries such as Belgium, where it reached number 11 in Wallonia, and number 19 in Switzerland. Some of the tracks featured other artists, including the Cape Verdean artist Cesária Évora on "Elle chante" and Tiken Jah Fakoly on "Question de peau". The track "Lété" (summer) is an adaptation of a single by Walter de Afogados and Fernando Alves titled "Morango do nordoeste". Translations include "Voyageur" (traveler), "Elle chante" (she sings) and "État des lieux" (state of a place, literally state of mind). One single "Brooklyn" is set in Brooklyn, New York. Cesária Évora GCIH (; 27 August 194117 December 2011), more commonly known as Cize, was a Cape Verdean singer-songwriter. She received a Grammy Award in 2004 for her album '' Voz d'Amor''. Nicknamed the "Barefoot Diva" for performing without shoes, she was known as the "Queen of Morna". Évora began singing as a young woman in bars in her hometown of Mindelo, and came to international prominence in the 1990s. Biography Early life Cesária Évora was born on 27 August 1941 in Mindelo, São Vicente, Cape Verde. When she was seven years old her father, Justino da Cruz Évora, who was a part-time musician, died, and at the age of ten she was placed in an orphanage, as her mother Dona Joana could not raise all six children. Doumbia Moussa Fakoly (born June 23, 1968 in Odienné), better known by his stage name Tiken Jah Fakoly (), is an Ivorian reggae singer and songwriter. Early life Doumbia Moussa Fakoly was born on 23 June 1968 in Odienné, Kabadougou Region, north-western Côte d'Ivoire. He discovered reggae at an early age, assembling his first group, ''Djelys'', in 1987. He became well-known at a regional level, but would soon ascend to national recognition. Career Concerned by the social and political evolution of his country, it was not long before Tiken Jah was writing incisive works on the political environment in Côte d'Ivoire. Teófilo Chantre (born 1964) is a Cape Verdean musician, first noted for his decades long collaboration with singer Cesaría Évora, and later for his own recordings. Life He was born on the island of São Nicolau, growing up with his grandparents on São Vicente Island after his parents left to find work in Europe, a common occurrence in the country. His father ended up in Rotterdam and his mother settled in Paris after a time in Hamburg. He moved to be with his mother at age 14, but he missed his grandparents, leading to an attachment to the concept of ''saudade'', the Portuguese word for longing and present in much Cabo Verde music. He learned the guitar at age 16 and continues to live in France.
