Alan Carmody
Sir Alan Thomas Carmody (8 September 1920 – 12 April 1978) was an Australian public servant and government official, who was knighted for his contributions. Background and early career Carmody was born at Malvern, a suburb of Melbourne, in Victoria. His father, Thomas Carmody, worked as a telephone mechanic for the Postmaster-General's Department and was later awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and Bar for bravery in World War I. Alan Carmody attended St Patrick's College, , New South Wales. Aged 16, he joined the Commonwealth Public Service on 18 March 1937 as a clerk for the Department of Trade and Customs in Canberra. Kev Carmody
Kevin Daniel Carmody (born 1946), better known by his stage name Kev Carmody, is an Aboriginal Australian singer-songwriter and musician, a Murri man from northern Queensland. He is best known for the song "From Little Things Big Things Grow", which was recorded with co-writer Paul Kelly for their 1993 single. It was covered by the Get Up Mob (including guest vocals by both Carmody and Kelly) in 2008 and peaked at number four on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) singles charts. Carmody has won many awards, and in 2009 was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame as well as being a recipient of the Queensland Greats Awards. Timothy Francis Carmody (born 18 May 1956) is an Australian judge who was the Chief Justice of Queensland between 8 July 2014 and 1 July 2015. His previous roles include work as a police officer, barrister, Queensland Crime Commissioner, Family Court of Australia judge, and Chief Magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Queensland. He also presided over the 2013 Child Protection Commission of Inquiry. Thomas Carmody (October 9, 1859 in Milo, Yates County, New York – January 22, 1922 in New Rochelle, Westchester County, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Life He graduated from Cornell Law School, and was admitted to the bar in 1886. He was District Attorney of Yates County from 1889 to 1893, and Chief Examiner of the State Civil Service Commission from 1893 to 1896. He was a delegate to the 1904 and 1912 Democratic National Conventions. He was New York Attorney General from 1911 to 1914, elected in 1910 and 1912. In 1913, he got involved in a controversy with zoo director William Temple Hornaday over the Federal Migratory Bird law which in Carmody's opinion was unconstitutional. Robert John Carmody (September 4, 1938 – October 27, 1967) was an American boxer whose career, which had included a bronze medal at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo as part of the flyweight division, was cut short when he was killed in action serving with the United States Army in the Vietnam War. Early life Born in 1938 to lower-class parents in Brooklyn, Carmody learned his trade in street fights near his home before joining the Army in 1957 and signing up for boxing classes with a close friend. Amateur career Carmody proved a natural, and was quickly chosen to represent the 11th Airborne Division, continuing in this position after their deployment to Germany in 1958. He was the Commissioner of Taxation of the Commonwealth of Australia from January 1993 to 31 December 2005 and the chief executive officer of the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service until 4 September 2012. High school Carmody attended Loyola College Prep, where he was a two-time All-District and All-City selection. As a senior, he made 8 of 11 field goals. John Carmody (January 6, 1854 – February 19, 1920) was a justice of the North Dakota Supreme Court from January 15, 1909, to 1910. Early life and education Carmody was born January 6, 1854, in Granville, Wisconsin (which is today part of Milwaukee). He was educated in public schools. At the age of 14, he and his parents moved who Waseca, Minnesota. In Waseca, Carmody attended high school. After high school, he worked as a teacher for several years before studying law in a Waseca attorney's office. Legal, political, and judicial careers In March 1880, Carmody was admitted to the Minnesota Bar after several years of legal studies. He practiced as a lawyer in Waseca until August 1885, when he moved to the community of Hillsboro in the Dakota Territory.
