Carmel School, Perth
Carmel School is a private Modern Orthodox Zionist Jewish school founded in in Perth, Western Australia. It offers Jewish religious and cultural education as well as conventional secular education for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 through a full-time primary school and a high school. It is the only Jewish day school in Western Australia. Notable students include singer Troye Sivan and his brother and musician Tyde Levi. History The Perth Hebrew School, housed by the Perth Hebrew Congregation was the forerunner to Carmel School. In 1957 a Jewish kindergarten was opened with 17 pupils, which led to the creation of Carmel School in 1959. Its first location was adjacent to the Brisbane Street synagogue, before moving to its current location in Yokine in 1962. Dianella is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is within the local government area of the City of Stirling. Dianella was named after the botanical title of a small blue lily, '' Dianella revoluta'', a narrow-leafed plant that was plentiful in the area prior to residential development. History Early development of the area was slow, as the sandy soil, part of the Banksia sandplain, was considered unsuitable for agriculture. Much of Dianella was subdivided in the 1880s by the Intercolonial Investment Company of Sydney, but growth was still slow and by 1919, the only development was along Walter Road, a track leading to dairy farms in the Morley area. The Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) is the credential awarded to students who have completed senior secondary education (Year 11 and Year 12) in the state of Western Australia. It is the Western Australian graduation certificate of the Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education.
